Escort cards - this might be a dumb question

But I will have to ask it anyway! How do you get them - do they come with your invitations? I've seen them handwritten AND printed. What are you all doing? If you have them printed, do you have to send your invites out extra early so you have enough time to do the seating arrangements and order the cards with enough time to print?

Now that the 'big' stuff is out of the way, I have started thinking about little details and I have realized that I have no clue what I am doing!

My venue does them but... since we are having a cocktail reception, we are not doing assigned seating. You can order them with invitations if you want but it's really a preference if you want them handwritten or printed. I have seen people do seating displays instead of individual cards ex. old window with names on separate glass panes etc.

My venue gives them to us blank then we have to write in the names. I don't particularly care for them (they're like off-white with green writing) so I think the easiest thing for us will be to just buy the kit from michaels where you can just print them yourself on your computer. That way it looks nice too, since I don't have the fanciest handwriting. Michaels also always has coupons so it's not a huge expense.
