Etiquette ???

Etiquette ???

We live in CA but are having our wedding in NY, is there an appropriate way to imply to guest that we prefer for gifts to be shipped directly to us rather than being brought to the reception??

It seems like a lot to ask our parents to ship it all out to us following the wedding, but we do not want to offend anyone....

I would put your CA address on your registry...

for weddings, esp in NY, I think its pretty rare that people bring gifts to the reception...we got not even 10 at the reception

You can tell your mother and MIL your preference and if a guest asks them they will have the information. But you cannot add a line to your invitation or put in a little note- that is bad form.
I only got 4 gifts at my wedding reception- and they were all from out of town guests so unless you are inviting a lot of non-NYers to your wedding I doubt this will be a huge problem for you.

I agree, put your CA address on the registry and don't worry since most people give money anyway.

I would put in on your registry and tell your mom FMIL and close friends to spred it word of mouth.

Re: Etiquette ???

the only way would be word of mouth.

Most people around here do not bring gifts to a wedding plus I am sure all of your guests know you live in CA and would not want to burden you with parcels for the trip home.

I agree - straight to California via that being the only address on your registry and let word of mouth do the talking!

Yup... what they said.

Even though your circumstance is a bit unique, it is still improper to write anything regarding the registry or gifts on the invite.

Have some family & BM disseminate the information among your guests for you.
