Etiquette question

Etiquette question

A friend -- we are pretty close to has been trying for years to get pregnant and she finally is -- now 30 weeks. We are going to meet them for dinner next weekend and they have just registered. Is it too early to get gift off of registry -- do we wait til she delivers or can we get something now?
We would like to get them something substantial like a stroller and I want to get it before the registry goes, so that is why I would want to go sooner.

Re: Etiquette question

Is she going to have a baby shower? If so, I would wait until then to give a gift off the registry.

If you want to still give her something to say congrats, get her something that she will enjoy and/or use to relax. Maybe a gift certificate for a massage or mani/pedi.

I will miss her shower -- I wanted to give it to them at dinner next weekend, is that a bad idea?

No it's not a bad idea if you will miss the shower.

Cool, thanks! Anyone else have an opinion?

I agree, if you already know that you are going to miss her shower then I think its a nice thing to do.

ETA - just be careful, if its a surprise dont let the date slip out...

My real question is if it is somehow not appropriate (or superstitious) to give a gift for a baby before it is born?

I don't think it's inappropriate at all, I'm sure she would be thrilled!

OK, I just talked to my sis and she suggested that maybe I buy something for the mommy to be -- rather than for the baby -- what ideas are good?

Re: Etiquette question

Hmmm, maybe a pregnancy massage, a pretty bathrobe, some bath gels and lotions,etc...?
