Etiquette question....

Etiquette question....

Ok, so in the mail today my FH received an invitation to the rehearsal dinner for a wedding of one of his guy friends.

My name wasn't on the invitation....? Was not even addressed to both of us and he knows that we are engaged (we've been engaged longer than they have been!).

Is that wrong of them? I dont even remember if I was on the actual invitation.....!?

But maybe I wouldn't be invited to the Rehearsal Dinner? I don't get it because FH isn't in his wedding party....so why would they invite only ONE of us to it?!

The reply card says 'Name(s) __________
___will attend ___will not attend' which leads me to believe I would be allowed to come...? But I'm more annoyed that it wasn't even sent to both of us.

Very strange! Why would he be invited at all if he's not in the wedding?!

It's really weird. These people are having their RD at Tavern on the Green and their wedding at the Mandarin Oriental in Manhattan. You should SEE these RD invites. GORGEOUS. No expense spared.

So I guess I just don't understand why only one of us was invited, if you see what I'm getting at...?

And you're right. I don't get why he is invited at all. Isn't the RD for OOT guests (maybe), the families, and the BP?

It's really not worth the phone call to him. We aren't close to this couple...(again - then why is he getting invited to the RD?), so I'm just gonna let it go. But it's weird.

Technically if your name wasn't on it or if it didn't say 'and guest', you're not invited. That happened to me too....I got an invitation that had just my name on it...and I couldn't bring FH (we were engaged then). Meanwhile, other people had their bf/gf's names on their invites (NOT engaged). I was pissed.

Re: Etiquette question....

it is VERY common for people to get invited to the RD alone

technically only spouses are supposed to be invited

now that is like 'Emily Post' etiquette - in 'real world' etiquette i think that is pretty rude! I mean I wouldnt invite a bf or gf but a fiance?!

Yeah, I'm kind of ticked off. I told FH they aren't getting invited to our wedding.

ETA: And again, if he were a GM I would totally understand me not being invited. But he's not.

Oh! Anddddddddd, his friend (the groom-to-be) knows that I am living in Boston this summer (while my FH is doing his internship in NY). So I think its rude to expect me to drive down from Boston to be there for the wedding but not invite me to the RD! What am I going to do on Friday night while FH is at the RD!?

It's so funny that now I analyze all of these details!

But I guess I'll learn from it and won't do the same for our RD!

That's weird. Tell him to decline. No fair for you that you don't get a free meal!

I agree....Very Common to invite people alone..because it gets out of hand if you invite girlfriends., fiance blah blah......

But I could neverrrrrrrrrrrrr do that! Especially if you know the person is engaged! I would be pissy

I think the best thing for you to do would be to show up at the wedding in a long white gown.
