etiquette question
Does my FMIL get an invite to wedding dress shopping? I sort of just want it to be my best girl friends and my mom... is that terrible?

You don't have to. I chose to, but I know a lot of girls that went with just their BMs and mother.

etiquette question
You absolutely don't have to if you don't want to. I did it because my FMIL has one child and that's FH she will never get the experience of choosing a dress. BUT if you really don't want her to come and you want it just your friends and your mom that's perfectly okay too =)

Nope, I went with just my mom. You have to do what is right for you.

It's totally up to you!! I did not invite my MIL. However, when I decided to put a deposit down on the dress, I invited her to come so she could see the dress :)

If you want to involve her but not actually have her there when you choose the dress, you could do what Bride2be just suggested or invite her to come to fittings instead.

I extended the invitation, because she only has boys. She couldn't make it anyway, and then decided she doesn't even want to see it before the wedding. She said she wants to be surprised.

I'm having an issue with this too. I love my FMIL, but I don't think I want her along to try on dresses. I'd rather it be my mom and my sister (MOH), but I think she might get offended.

This is what I'm worried about. I can see her getting offended but I really just want to share the moment with my mom, sisters, and best friend. These are the people I don't feel like I have to be on my best behavior in front of, ya know? I want to be relaxed and have a good time and not worry about what impression I'm giving her by our constant joking around.
Thanks to everyone for their answers! I feel better now!

Re: etiquette question
You don't have to...I didn't. Dress shopping is the funnest part so spend it with the few people you are VERY close to.

etiquette question
You don't have to. I did because my FMIL doesn't have any daughters. And my mother is in FLA. it was a nice bonding experience for us.You can do what I did. I went shopping with my sister and close friends first. Narrowed it down to three dresses (though I knew which one i I loved already) and then I invited his family to include them for the final decision. Or least they thought that and then I avoided offending anyone.
But it's up to you, It's all about having fun and enjoying that special moment too many people with opinions can ruin that.

etiquette question
I didn't. I brought my mom and two sisters - that is it! The less opinions (especially adding a second mom) the better. My FMIL didn't expect an invitation because its something you do with your mom. It is a nice gesture, but I wouldn't want to get there and if she picked a dress that I loved instead of my moms choice, I'd feel terrible.

etiquette question
I went with my mom for the first two appointments and then I brought my bridal party for the last one. I did not bring FMIL to any of them. I may bring her to a fitting, I haven't decided yet.

I brought just my mom, and no one else will be seeing my dress until I walk down the aisle.

etiquette question
I agree with many of the girls on here but it was with FGMIL. My FHs mother passed away about 3 years ago, before her daughter got married and grandma went shopping etc. with her. I initially went with just my mom, then invited my sister and cousin (MOH and BM) with me when I decided to put a deposit on my dress. I will invite FGMIL and FSIL with me for my fitting (first or last).Welcome New Vendors
