Hey ladies, I have a question/thing I'm uncertain about:
I received a wedding invitation in the mail from one of my sorority sisters and it was addressed to me....and only me. She knows I am engaged although I wasn't at the time I received a STD but she knew we were serious nonetheless. Here's my question:
Am I allowed to bring FH? My hunch is no since the invitation was only addressed to me but I'm still not completely sure. What do you all think I should do? Just go alone which I don't mind since there will be other sisters (we'll probably all be at a table together) or should I bring it up to her and ask if I can bring a guest?

You'll get a variety of responses but here's my opinion....
Since it was only addressed to you then technically FH is not invited. But I would still ask.
What does FH think?

Re: Etiquette Question about Invitations you Receive
I have the same problem with one of FH's co-workers. She only put his name on the invite. She knows we're engaged and getting married in a couple months, and she knows she's invited...does that mean I'm not invited??

OMG... same thing happenend to me. FH was invited to a co-workers (the Groom) wedding while we were engaged. When we submitted the RSVP card we put down two guests. A few weeks later the groom told FH I may have to pay for my seat. At the end of it I attended & didn't pay but I still felt slighted.

Re: Etiquette Question about Invitations you Receive
agreed you will get many answers.
For me personally, if they know you are engaged or married and do not invite that person, than they are obviously not that close to you. I would either rsvp NO or go alone. But I would'nt ask because just as a lot of thought goes into when WE will all send out our invites im thinking thought was put into it... and probably needed to cut down on # of people.
Do I think it is proper etiquette?? ABSOLUTELY NOT, hence, why I would probably rsvp NO .
g/luck, let us know what you end up doing.

Re: Etiquette Question about Invitations you Receive
Thank you everyone so much for all of your responses!! Each was very helpful. FH doesn't really mind since he only met her once and both of us have to travel to get to the wedding so he doesn't feel upset about it. I can see where she might be coming from too. I know all of the sisters will be sitting together and I'm sure she can't invite everyone with a guest (serious or not). I can only imagine what I'll go through when I have to start making a guest list
I'm still not sure if I'm going or not but in case I did decide to say yes I just wanted some advice from my LIW ladies first. Plus I'm sure it will happen again since a lot of my friends are getting married and it's just good etiquette to know and good advice to have!
Thank you all so much again!!

Re: Etiquette Question about Invitations you Receive
I think with coworkers and sorority sisters that may be common- you wanna see everyone there - its like a group - they all have something in common- they'll all sit together- all the guests dont know you or anyone else- but its better if you also invite them with a guest - but sometimes people do that to cut down costs. I would say no he is not invited (double check with another sister) and have a great night with your sisters!! personally, if it was like my cousin's wedding and my fiance was not invited i would be insulted- but for a sorority sister or co worker i understand.

My roommate another one of my sisters and hers was addressed to just her as well. This girl knows my roommate doesn't have a bf but still, no 'and guest'.

Re: Etiquette Question about Invitations you Receive
Similar thing happened to me years ago w/ two good friends of mine. Since the invite was addressed to me, I could only put myself down. But when I called them to confirm they only reaffirmed it b/c I was told they didn't know him, yet we were together for a long time! LOL So, to answer your question, it's for you and only you, but you can ask....GL

I totally agree, especially with the cost issue. I mean as nice as it would be to have FH there with me, it's still a great night with my sisters and I will know all of them.

Thank you! This is totally the first time this has happened to me since all the weddings I've been to recently have been for FH's family and I've always been invited! I think I'll leave it as it's only for me....only because I would feel awkward asking especially if it has to deal with keeping costs down.

Re: Etiquette Question about Invitations you Receive
It is better to ask then assume.
We all read time and time again about how people assume their entire family is invited when it is really only one person. You do not want to be that person. JMO.

Definitely true. I would only ask if I decide to go though.

Lol, I definitely don't want to be that person!! I could never assume because everyone knows what happens when you assume...

Re: Etiquette Question about Invitations you Receive
I had a similar situation happen to me... I got invited to my college roommate's wedding and it didn't have my Dh's name anywhere on the invite... and this was AFTER we got married... the inner envelope just had my first name sloppily hand written in blue pen... she didnt come to our wedding, so instead of asking about bringing DH I just replyed no...
