Pay on your credit card - you'll get a better exchange rate when your bill comes - I did this and it saved me from carrying lots of cash around!!

Not sure what country your going to, but most hotels in Italy even the nice ones would rather you pay in cash and you can typically get a 5 to 7%discount for this. Watch the credit card charges. Alot of places will charge you in American dollars and not Euros, which will end up costing you more. Also Capital One is the only credit card as far as all the research I've done that doesn't charge an extra surcharge. Go to www.fodors.com and their Europe talk suggestion you'll find lots of posts on this. Most people agree that taking money out of ATM daily and paying cash is the best way to go.

i agree with this. ATMs give you the best exchange rate, and a lot of hotels in spain also give 5 or 10% off for paying in cash.
