Europe in the winter?

Can anyone suggest any European country that could be enjoyed if travelled in the winter months?

TIA!

England is pretty mild in the winter. Scotland is also a great place to travel in the winter, especially the highlands. There will be snow there, but the highlands are gorgeous at that time of year.

It depends on what you are looking to do...

Germany and Switzerland come to mind right away when I think of Europe in the winter.

DH and I celebrated Valentine's Day in Paris a few years ago. It was cold, but not frigid. I had a great time.

I loved Europe in the winter...
ESPECIALLY Switzerland (ZERMAT!!!)

We visited Paris as well (we were there on New Years', it was beautiful in the snow);

I would highly recommend these cities of Switzerland: Zermatt, Lucern and St. Moritz; there's something so magical about these places, especially with all the snow (Geneva and Zurich were ok, just more city like).

I also LOVED Salzburg, Austria. I'll never forget walking back from a late dinner, with the snow falling...my DH and I were the only ones walking on the side cobblestone streets in the quaint historic village...it was beautiful.

Here are some pics (I've posted these before):
Some of these pics I took on the train: The Glacier Express...what a fantastic ride!

These are from St. Moritz:
The lake is frozen, and they have events on the lake, we saw horse racing...also, if you love to ski, you'll be in heaven (we didn't ski and still loved it):

This is Lucern, Switzerland...such a lovely historic town as well.

Here is my all time fav. place, Zermatt!

I was just telling my DH we need to go back soon.

No cars allowed in the town (there really would be no way to get them there anyway).

I went to Austria, Germany and Switzerland for about 3 weeks in Januray when I was in college. It was so beautiful there. I can't imagine being there any other time if year.

I lived in Germany for a year, winters are quite nice. if you like to ski check out Garmisch. I hold a soft spot for Garmisch, me and FH fell in love there.

if you go during xmas time, they have great xmas markets, really beautiful! FM if you have any questions, i have been to many places in Europe.

I went to London and Paris in February and had a fantastic time. Ed and I invested in really warm coats and shoes before we went so we could be outside for hours and not mind the cold, that was a good move on our part. We walked the streets of Paris, even in the snow, and had a blast! I think if you prepare for the cold, you could have a great time anywhere.
