Even more Fortunoffs news!

Okay, I was getting really worried about all the closing talk because BBB, Macy and Bloomies dont carry the China I picked out... so I called the Westbury locatation to ask and the saleslady told me that they are no longer taking credit cards (on any kind! ) the saleslady flat out told me that she thinks they are closing by the end of the month because they are letting everyone go and that they have nothing in stores anymore. She then told me that even the clearance center store in LI is closing!

The store in Manhattan is empty, we walked by there last week. Fortunoffs has been a staple my whole life. My mom registered there. I had planned on registering there my whole life. This s_cks!

Empty? Is it closed down? That's horrible.

Okay, I called just now and spoke to JOANNE.

She said that they are in the process of being sold.

They do not accept Fortunoff CC's anymore because the 10 year contract with the bank that held the card for Fortunoff's expired. They did not renegotiate with that bank because they are waiting to be bought by another company to issue new CC's.

THEY ARE ACCEPTING other CC's like VISA / MC and AMEX. Pixie, I think you got this confused with the Fortunoff's card.

They are not taking any custom orders right now until they are bought out.

OMG that's crazy. FH and I were there last night and they took my debit card and his credit card. I think this means this is happening a lot faster then we all think. It's so terrible. Are there any other china patterns that you guys like? Maybe try doing a search online and see if you can find the one you picked at Fortunoff. Maybe family can buy for you online. That really s ucks.

well thing is that i peeked on our registry and someone bought all our china place settings so i need all the other stuff like creamer, sugar, gravy boat and serving dishes

omg im so upset.. we are registered mostly at BBB but registered at fortunoff b/c we couldn't find any everyday plates anywhere except for one fortnuoff made brand! now what?!?!

Do you know if they're starting liquidation sales a la Circuit City or Linens and Things? My fiance totally replaced his surround sound speaker system thanks to 75% off speakers and receivers when Circuit City was closing. . .

If Fortunoff goes this route, maybe you can pick up your china for dirt cheap?

I just called too. They are not accepting any gift cards at this time!!! The girl I spoke to said to go in and see what a manager would do but they may not be able to do anything! She also mentioned that the store is not telling the employees much and they are trying to sell but it does not look good!!

Of course, I just put my beautiful bedding on my registry... I'm so upset. And on top of that I bought jewelry for my bridesmaids and I am waiting for it to come in. I am actually going to go there tomorrow and return all the bridemaids gifts bc I cant take a chance of the rest of the pieces not coming in or the store closing.. I would lose too much money.

If I hear anything else I will let everyone know!

I thought they were already bought out last year? That is what I heard from a client last year Hm...I have a coupon I think I'm going to take a trip to LI this week.

How much of a discount are they offering there? When are they going to start liquidation?

they havent officially said they are going out of business yet, therefore they are not liquidating. Lord and Taylor bought them last year, but apparently the deal fell through and now they are looking for a new buyer. If they do not find a buyer, they will ultimately go out of business.

BTW this is all info I read on the multiple threads on this site that other brides have posted after they called or visited the store.
