everybody's favorite subject..fmil's

let me start of my saying i really don't have a problem with my fmil. i do call her 'ma,' so its not like we hate each other. but lately, man, has she been pushing my buttons. so here is my question: if you could tell off your fmil with no repercussions, would you? and what would you say? i think i would mainly tell her to mind her own business, that this is my wedding and she is not my mother. maybe i'm just evil, but i think it would make me feel better to just tell her off. anyone else?

I actually think i like my fmil better than my own mother... so i would have nothing to tell her off about... my own mother however, I would have plenty to say...

I think mine might be the oposite. when my mother was the mother of the groom she was so involved...but my FMIL doesnt seem like she cares too much. (she has a lot going on though..but i dont think it would be different if she ddint) so i might tell her to fake more interest

Re: everybody's favorite subject..fmil's

I DID tell off my MIL when I was getting married!

Her only job for the wedding was to get the name and addresses of the people that were to be invited to the wedding (from her side). Every day I would ask her if she got them and of course the answer would be no. She would have no problem giving me suggestions on where to take pictures, how to do my hair or makeup, etc, etc... Until one day while she's going on and on with suggestions about the wedding...I snapped.

My (now) DH was sitting right next to me and I said, 'Listen, I really don't want any suggestions from you anymore! This is my wedding and I'm going to do things my way! All I asked you to do is to get the addresses to your friends and family and you still can't do that! SO if you're not getting them for me they're not invited!!!'

Yikes! I really let her have it! Then to make it worse, I had her table at the wedding across the room from our table and of course she complained about that too.

I could go on and on about her...

I love my fmil, and have no problems with her. I guess I am just lucky!
I do have friends with horrible FMIL so I know were you guys are coming from.

My FMIL is very nice, very welcoming, but that doesn't mean that I don't envision problems. She is very excited about the wedding, and I can imagine her wanting to be overly involved as it gets closer. And I will tell her off is she bugs me. (Probably I'll just tell FH to tell her back off)

OMG I'd tell her soooo much I can't even begin to think of it. I don't think there are enough curse words for me to tell her how I feel

I would just try to let it roll of my back! I could completely see myself exploding if I were annoyed. Luckily, I get along with my FMIL but I know that my FI and she have had their share of troubles. You would feel better telling her off temporarily, but then you would be left with a sticky situation. I find myself telling people off in my head. Boy do they get it from me!!

it think it just might be b/c i'm on my period (i know, tmi) but i really wanted to let her have it on friday night. we are at fh's house and fh was speaking to his father about car insurance. fh is finally getting his own, he turned 25 in november and the rates dropped. anyhoo, he's telling his dad that he applied and how everything is fine on insurance co's end, they just have to verify the info with dmv. so right away, fmil jumps in with 'that means there going to cancel our policy.' w t f??? yes, fh is under parents policy, but why would that mean the policy is going to be cancelled? i was like, what do you mean? they can't cancel the policy like that. she can just jump to conclusions and it drives me nuts. maybe i'm the only evil one of the 06 board..

Just remember your FMIL is your FH's mom. After you, she's probably the only other woman in the world he loves. If she is frustrating you, venting here may be a better way to blow off steam than in front of him or his family.

OMG I would Definitly love to TELL HER OFF!!! My FMIL is a complete GROUCH and VERY OPINIONATED!!! She has all boys and my FH is her youngest. At the engagement party All she kept saying to everyone is 'Your/she's taking my little boy away' OMG I wanted to punch her and tell her to shut up!!!

There is a whole lot that I HATE about her but won't get into right now cuz it's TMI lol but for one thing I can't wait to get married and take him away from her house!!
FH knows that I disagree with her a lot but he really doesn't know 1/2 of it...I just smile and take everything in..I gotta be civil

While I love my FMIL, our tastes are not the same. I'm a little nervous about getting into planning - I hope we don't butt heads!

We get along very well, and I feel comfortable talking to her more that I talk to my own mother, but when it comes to gifts/parties/etc., we're just 'different'.

I can't really explain it, but here's an example. If she has to give a birthday or xmas gift and there's a $20 limit, she'll run into Sears, buy the first shirt she sees, and wrap it up. I, on the other hand, would go to a store that the gift recipient usually shops, and if I couldn't find something I think she'd like, I'd just get a gift card...sounds simple, right? Not to some people!

Re: everybody's favorite subject..fmil's

nicole, my fmil is the same way. she has a lot to say and always things her way is the right way. and she really loves to spend $$ on people for gifts, but she winds up buying so much cr@p that she can't keep track of all of it. but heres' the kicker, she gets mad when people don't do the same for her. oy, it drives me nuts.

and we do get along, but some days i just can't take anymore, you know.

Re: everybody's favorite subject..fmil's

It's a little weird- --- FMIL is always a generous person, always opens her home and buys/gives little things at random times, but she is the WORST gifter ever! It's funny sometimes...on Sat, for my birthday, she gave me 2 XL sweaters from Sears (I'm definitely no bigger than a medium, and I've never shopped at Sears for anything other than a vacuum or a tool!) For Xmas, she gave FH a South Pole knee length down jacket!!!!

my fmil loves kohls so every gift i get comes in a kohl's box.....but at least she buys the right size for me.

a vacuum or a tool

Re: everybody's favorite subject..fmil's

I get along really well with my FMIL...there are times when I'm sticking up for her when FH thinks she's being annoying to him... she has YET to make any suggestions for our wedding...she just asks how things are coming along and likes to hear about what we've decided and what we're deciding on..shes a really easy going person...I don't envision any 'nagging or annoyance ' with her.

If I didn't get along with her then...yes I would tell her off it meant no repercussions
