I would just like to state that voting 'YES' doesn't always equal service for the children as many times the money does not go towards students but mismanagement and administration and some times even fraud (see: Roslyn School District, etc).

Also, voting for a ten percent increase every year is not in the interests of anyone, as there is a way to be fiscallly responsible and work on a budget that only raises with inflation AND not break the backs of the taxpayers.

you have a point - but the payment to the adminsitrators was mentioned before - that is contractual and isnt voted on - so whether the budget passes or not that administrator is going to get their contract -

and when budgets FAIL - they cut the programs that will hurt the kids the most - like sports, art, band, no busses, etc - but thats not the same as saying that increases in the budget go directly to the kids because it doesnt.

Re: Everyone VOTE today for your School Budget!

My sister, cousin and mother are all teachers and they are voting no. There was an article in the NY post the other day and it compared NYC Catholic Schools to NYC public schools. The article reported that the public schools spent 3 times as much on each student than catholic schools and the public school teachers made much more than catholic school teachers but the catholic school students did much better academically. The students all came from the same socio-economic background too. Based on this article, the amount of money spent on each child should not determine the quality of education. I remember when I was in school that the budgets always passed, but I think people are getting annoyed and want to know where their tax money is going. In my school district, the teachers are doing very well...my sister is a teacher and she is making more than most assistant district attorneys in the city.
