I know there was a thread not to long ago on whether or not you invited an ex to your wedding... i have not spoke to my ex in over 2 years which was just for a moment - its been a real long time since we had a real talk - anyway he got in touch with me today via classmates.com. He told me he is getting married in less than a week (May 2nd)
What up with that??
Has this happened to anyone else?
I don't mind talking to him but If I was his future wife i would not want him talking to me
update: he sent me some photo's of himself and one with his FW, and now he just sent me a wedding photo. The one they plan on using as their thank you. The girl looks just like me! Besides that we look alike, her hair was done just like mine on my wedding day, same type of veil and headpiece and same exact bo-k (all black magic roses)!!!! weird!

Re: ex-boyfriend/girlfriend question
I wouldn't worry about it. When people go through major life changes, sometimes they start thinking about the past. About people they've lost touch with, or places where they used to live, or the way they used to be at a certain time in their lives. I know I do this whenever a big change happens. (Sometimes I even contact old friends out of the blue.) My guess is... unless he said something strange... he's just feeling nostalgic and remembering old times.

Re: ex-boyfriend/girlfriend question
personally.. don't give it much thought. People do weird things... I got a STD card from my former best friend who wanted me to come out to Chicago to the Wedding.
We haven't talked in 4 years.. I'm best friends with his enemies.. and he still sent me one.. go figure.....

Re: ex-boyfriend/girlfriend question
Not sure what my opinion is. I don't keep in touch with my ex nor does my husband with his. So needless to say we didn't call/invite either of them.
My very good guy friend got married a few years ago. He told me he had called his ex girlfriend (they dated for 6 years and broke up amicably) because he felt it was right to hear it from him instead of through the grapevine. My cousin got married last year and she also called her ex when she got engaged for the same reason.

Re: ex-boyfriend/girlfriend question
People sometimes do things like this for 'closure' I believe. Either that, or because they want to brag! LOL ! I think it truly depends on the nature of the breakup .. If it were amicable, if wouldn't bother me if an ex called/emailed to tell me they were engaged. If it were an UGLY breakup, I'd be a little annoyed.
With the exception of one of my ex's (who is one of my best friends) neither FH nor I had ANY desire to contact our respective 'ex's' to tell them we'd gotten engaged. None of my ex's contacted me, either (thank God). But for some reason my FH's exs over the years have ALL been in contact with him to tell him about their respective engagements/marriages/living together situations. Many of whom he never had spoken to post-breakup. So go figure, eh?

Re: ex-boyfriend/girlfriend question
Our dentist is my ex (he was not my dentist when we met, and it was years later I made FH go to him cause he's a good dentist). I was supposed to get my teeth cleaned in Feb but had to cancel because I couldn't get into the city. Then stuff got even busier and I could not reschedule.
Before I knew it, it was less than a month before the wedding and I REALLY wanted my teeth cleaned before it. But I decided not to make an appt because I didn't want to (a) seem like I was rubbing it in his face or (b) make him think I was giving him a 'final chance'. And I'm pretty sure neither choice would have crossed his mind (he's in his late 40's - so not a child and we split over eight years ago) but I just felt odd about it.

Re: ex-boyfriend/girlfriend question
I went a different route -- I guess you could put this in the 'bragging' category.
When Boosh and I got engaged, I put our engagement announcement, wedding announcement and anytime I got a job promotion in my alumni newsletter. My ex and I went to the same college and I knew she read the newsletter because she had put notes in there before.
The relationship had ended really badly and she really did a number on me. I wanted to make sure she knew what she had missed out on

Re: ex-boyfriend/girlfriend question
I think about my HS ex occasionally, just in a 'wonder what ever happened to him ' kinda way. I do think it would be weird if I tracked him down now, but it woud be nice to hear from him. My HS reunion is the week before my wedding. i doubt he'll go, but I guess It would come up in conversation , right? with anybody.
And I'm not inviting anybody from HS to the wedding, so it might be kinda of weird if peopel I used to be close to are there, but I'm not going to skip it just for that reason.

Re: ex-boyfriend/girlfriend question - update
I kind of understand--I emailed my ex from college to tell him I was engaged--I wanted him to hear it from me and not from one of our mutual friends. When I was making the list of friends to invite, I was again reminded of him. We were together all four years of college, and he was my best friend through all four years. I think of him in a platonic way and hope he is doing well with life--I don't know if I would have sent the pictures as your ex did, but I was thinking of inviting him to the wedding, though I haven't seen him in a few years. I don't think FH would approve, but...

Re: ex-boyfriend/girlfriend question - update
I guess it's old home week or something! I too got an out of the blue phone call today from an ex. Not the last ex -- but one from the dark ages of my life... We dated in HIGH SCHOOL fer crying out loud!
Anyhow -he just wanted to say hi... and ask me something about the music business as I used to be in that. We talked and it was all very nice.
I don't think I will say anything to FH. It's not worth waking up the green-eyed monster behind his eyes!
