Excellence Resort in Punta Cana or Mexico?

Excellence Resort in Punta Cana or Mexico?

FH and I can't seem to decide which Excellence Resort to go to?

- there is one in Punta Cana which is rated #1 on Trip Advisor
- Excellence Playa Mujeres in Mexico which is just beautiful , but read some negatives because it only opened in November 07.
- Excellence Riviera Cancun, rated # 1 in that area as well.

We like a nice beach, ocean view, interested in jacuzzi on terace.

Those of you who have been there or planning on going or hard anything about them, your comments and advice are greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Morning! I think a friend of mine is going there on her HM in May (Mexico). She booked through Travel Tom and is very excited. You should FM her for info - GTBride. Beebz, help this girl out!

I think all 3 look amazing- especiallt the new one, however, I'd hold off on the new one for now till they get all the little quircks worked out. I dont think you can go wrong with the other two.

I agree with this, I would be careful going to a new place. I am going to the one in Cancun for my honeymoon. I choose this one over the one in DR because a lot of people told me the ocean can be kinda rough in the DR. I have a friend who's family lives there and he said alot of people don't even go in the water sometimes. He said coming from NY beaches it's not that bad but it's not the calm Caribbean water people expect.

Re: Excellence Resort in Punta Cana or Mexico?

I just came back from my HM at the Excellence resort in the Riviera Maya, and it was awesome!! The grounds are beautiful, the staff is so friendly, the food was very good, the drinks were strong (except for at 10 am, but that's OK ) The spa was great. We have no complaints, and would love to go there again. The beds were a little hard, but nothing to really complain about. I have a few pics in my album. The only thing I would suggest though, the idea of the tub on the terrace is nice, but when you see the rooms that have them, all they have is sheer curtain for privacy, and when the wind blows, you can see everything. We didnt' have the excellence club room, so we didn't have the tub on the terrace, but it did seem very exposed from the outside. We've been to Punta Cana before too, and we like the beach in Punta Cana more, but we didn't stay at the excellence resort there, but I'm sure that one is very nice as well.

I went to Excellence Riviera Maya - it was great!

Except that there wasn't as much variety of food as you'd expect for the price

and we had bugs in our room

But I love the romance of the place

The ocean at Excellence DR is really rough because it is on the Atlantic Ocean and not the Caribbean Sea. It is also about an hour bus ride from the airport.
BUT it is a gorgeous place and we had a wonderful time there. We were there in 2005 when it was still Secrets.

I am in the middle of these two the Excellence rivera maya or the El Dorado Royale , i like the El Dorado Royale because they have Casitas and they look awesome and its exactly what were looking for but the beach is destroyed from hurricanes, but on trip advisor people say the excellence beach isnt nice either IDK AHHHHH

If having crystal blue water is important to you, dont do Excellence Riviera Maya. The Ocean there looks like you are at Jones Beach.

We weren't thrilled with Excellence Riviera Maya, I wrote a review on Trip Advisor. We thought it wasn't worth the price. I do not recommend it.

I absolutely love Punta Cana.. the beaches there are perfect. Never been to the Excellence there though.

I heard the one in Punta Cana has better food but they both have great service...and this is from someone who went to both.

Yep, I am going there on March 27! whoohoo

I booked Excellence Riviera Maya. I just want to say one thing and that is any tropical country you go too will have bugs! Both excellence in punta cana and riviera maya looks amazing but we wanted to go to mexico. I wouldn't go to the new one just yet b/c i didn't like the reviews but if your not a picky person i would definately check it out cause you can get 30% off right now! check the website. Good Luck! and let us know what you end up booking. I heard the beach at Excellence Riviera isn't the greatest but there are also like 8 pools. Plus, you can always take a cab to a near by beach and i heard they are beautiful!
