Excellence Riviera Cancun

Has anyone been here for their Honeymoon? Our travel agent highly recommends it but I am way too analytical and read a few of the bad tripadvosor reviews and now am having doubts. Please help if you've been here, im specifically worried about Montezumas revenge or food poisining that some of the reviews mentioned.

Why is the honeymoon decision SO HARD!

We went and it was amazing! I do not have anything bad to say about it. There are pics in my album.

The service was Excellent, the restaurants were great and I love the whole place! We stayed at the main pool with the pool bar and met a bunch of other people from all over!

I recommend the Mahi Mahi for lunch at the Grill and have a Miami Vice for me!

Oh and I ate and drank there all week and was not sick at all! The only thing to watch out for is the Coco Loco drinks on the beach.

I've heard great things about that resort but we decided to book at the Iberostar Grand Resort in Riviera Maya... Tripadvisor has nothing but great reviews! Maybe look into that if you don't feel comfy with the Excellence. Prices were also great!

Thanks for the advice, the thing that most concerns me was once review that said a couple got bedbugs from there. I understand that this was only one review out of a thousand but its enough to make me really concerned.

I have only heard really good things about the Excellence Resorts. And as far as I know, they filter their water.

I just went there in June for my Honeymoon and I am not a beach person and we had a blast...I was worried about getting sick also but they purify the water and after the 3rd day i started to drink drinks with water or ice in it...The food was amazing and I am a picky eater and the pools were so much fun...you are going to have a great time...believe me if I had fun you will have fun...we are actually looking to go to the excellence property in the dominican republic for our 1 year anniversary...but for our 5 year anniversary we are going back to excellence in cancun...we are going to make it a every 5 year thing...

This can happen at any resort- especially beach resorts. DH and i check the beds at any hotel we stay at the moment we get in the room- just to be sure. Look in the seams of the mattress and run your hand down the sheets. If you find them right away, demand to be switched to another room. And then your vaca wont be ruined. :)

Thanks for the link to the other thread and advice. And Gina, I am paranoid and always look too but from what I hear, you cant see these. This particular review said the couple had to move out of their apartment and throw out all of their furniture since once you have them, they are impossible to get rid of. Thats why it scared me so bad!

Re: Excellence Riviera Cancun

I was a nervous nelly before I went. I was nervous I would get stolen in Mexico, that there would be bed bugs, I would get sick from the food and drinks, people would break into our room and steal our stuff, mainly our passports so we couldn't get home... you name it I was nervous about it. BUT none of that happened. It was a beautiful place. We enjoyed it alot. We never left the resort to do excursions since we felt it was our HM and we were not there to tour. We did a lot of spa treatments, in the spa and on the beach. It was a wonderful spa. The night shows are a lil lame but whatever it wasn't horrible. The pool activities are very funny. The beach was even amazing.
My only gripe was that the coffee was gross and that the nightlife was a lil lame. But you are on your honeymoon, you should be in your room at night
FM me more if you want any other information I would be more than happy to put your mind at ease.
I read Tripadvisor too and saw those reviews... trust me you will be fine. I even reassured myself by reading reviews on places I've been to and loved. Even with those places I saw bad ones, but knew what I felt about it. Reviews are just opinions.

I didnt stay at Excellence, I stayed at the Aventura Spa Palace and it was amazing. As far as the 'Revenge' I dont think you should stress yourself. Our resort had filtered water and I had ice in all my drinks. I even had water at a restaurant in Playa Del Carmen. Nothing happened to DH or I. And I have a sensitive stomach.

Ive thankfully never got them. I know people who ahve from hotels though. They say if you rub your hand over the sheets you can see some blood. And you can see them in the mattress by looking in the corners etc. They are tiny, but if you are looking for them Im told you can see them. If u do get them at a hotel- do not leave that hotel till you have had all your clothes washed in extremly hot water, and you will most likly have to throw away the suitecase you brought with you. But def dont go home till you are rid of them!

the scary thing is this can happen anywhere no matter how luxurious the place is.

Thanks for this reply!!!!! And all the others too but this definitely put me at ease and I am booking it this afternoon! I can't worry about everything, and bad things can happen ANYWHERE. For the time of year and value, this makes the most sense
