Excited, Nervous and Sad

Tomorrow morning, I'm leaving for New Orleans and will be there until Tuesday afternoon on business.

I'm excited because it's my first business trip away from NY and it's a good experience

I'm nervous because it's my first trip, I'll be alone and the client is looking to me for support. Plus, I've never travelled with a laptop before and will need it as part of my duties. I hope I can manage.

And above all, I'm sad because I won't be spending the weekend with my wife and because we were in New Orleans last month and went all sorts of places. Now, I'm there alone, so when I pass all those places and she's not there, it'll be sad. Sigh

aww don dont b sad or nervous!! its a great opportunity to enhance ur career and i m sure u will do amazing!!!! plus dont b sad about missing ur wife, the weekend will fly by trust me, we will miss u!!!

I used to travel for work quite a bit - but I was always on tour with a company of 80 dancers!!

Still, it's nice sometimes to have a few days, a hotel room and an expense account all to yourself

I went to New Orleans on business & was alone part of the time. It was my first time, so it was good to explore & it is a good place to walk around alone ( pretty safe in the touristy areas) but my husband ( boyfriend at the time) had been there before & I kept seeing things he told me about , so it did make me miss him.

What is your concern with the laptop? Security?
You just have to take it as your carry on, and open it & show it to the security folks. You may have to turn it on to prove it is real, so make sure it is charged.

ahhh, ok-- well computers are allpretty muchthe same. The mouse is weird, but jsut make sure you know wher ethe pewer button & have the chrager & know where it goes & you'll be alright.

What do you do?

I travel about once a month for work. Here are my tips:

Pack light! Try and only have a carry-on and your laptop.

Try and leave room for your laptop in your bag (makes it much easier to carry) One you go through security pop it in your bag.

Using your laptop should be easy. Almost all the hotels have ports in the room or a business center.

Kepp very god track of your receipts (I usually bring an envelope to put them in.

You are going to a fun place so enjoy it a little (I go to Iowa-zzzzzz)

Oooohh.. us ladies should be sticking together!!

Try to have a good time, Don.. I always hated travelling alone myself, and would hate to be away from DH for too long.

But you'll be fine . make us proud

I'm sure you'll be fine. I love traveling for work. When can you stay at a hotel and eat on someone else's dime. I always go to places that I wouldn't normally go to.

I travel a lot for work also. Try to get out of the hotel room, usually the bus tours are great -- you see the city and don't feel awkward being alone. Try to see it as a learning experience, not as a drag. Some of my best trips have been bus, trips on my own (sorry, DH!). Places like Paris, Madrid, Cape Town...NOT places you can hop on the phone with a loved one, or catch the earlier flight out....

If the hotel has hi-speed internet... it should have a port. But make sure you bring a spare ethernet cable cause they sometimes don't provide that.

Oh and if they are paying for dinner... make sure you eat well.

Yup... just get one from your job. The computer people will know what you need.
