excommunication? ??

Ladies,

How do I check if a priest who performs ceremonies outside of a church has just left the church or if he has been excommunicated?? There has to be records, right? And if excommunication is true, then im sure it's a sin to get married by him, right??

Check with your dicocese. They can point you in the right direction. I don't think it's a sin, but it might not be the best thing.

I would call the Diocese of Rockville Centre or Brooklyn and ask them about this person. Chances are if he has agreed to marry you outside of the Church-without having gone through some kind of dispensation process-he is not affiliated with the RC Church.

If it is important for you to be in good standing with the church (be able to receive communion, etc.), you should contact your Parish or your FI's Parish and go through the marriage prep process that way you will be sure it is legit. Good Luck!
