Exercise!!

I am trying to lose some weight, my best friend's wedding is in six months and I am hoping to keep it off after that. The problem is my trouble area is my stomach and I need good ab exercises, especially lower abs...can anyone help or know if a very inexpensive gym or work out place

Re: Exercise!!

Cardio helps a lot; walking, running. I did Zumba in the summer I had fun and it works. Do a combination of cardio and various ab exercises (leg raises are good for the lower abs).

Planet fitness is ab affordable gym. They have memberships for $10/$20 a month. One thing about them they do not have classes so if that's what you're looking for they might not be the gym for you. They focus on cardio so they have a lot of cardio machines and weight machines/ free weights as well.

Since I've started planning the wedding I haven't been able to make it to the gym. Another alternative that I've done and you can do too. Most cable companies have on demand channels which include exercise on demand. They have all different types of work out series and it's really good. They have a lot of exercise routines specifically for abs. If you haven't already you should check it out.

Hope that helps

Re: Exercise!!

IMO It all starts with your diet and I'm not saying go on a diet because that's weight you will put back on, but change your diet, meaning the way you eat and what you eat.
I just lost 11 pounds in 11 weeks on Weight Watchers. It's not a diet it's a way of living. I still eat everything I love I just had to change my portion size. They now have apps for your Smartphone and online access so you can do all your tracking and food reseach right online... it's been sooo helpful to me.
I haven't even started working out yet and I lost that weight. I go to the meeting, I feel you have to in order to stay on track.
As for a gym, I used to work at NYSC so I know they cost money as do most gyms but if I were you I would google local places and shop around. There are definitely places out there for $25 a month. I'm sure they would have what you need.
But I can't say you can do it without changing your food intake.
FM if you want more information.

I agree change of lifestlye and watching what we eat is very important. Although I haven't been to the gym/ worked out in about a month or so I have maintained.

I prepare my meals in advance so that way I know I'm eating something healthy.

Jump rope!!!! It's super challenging, works every muscle, and torches calories.

Thanks ladies, since the new year began I have changed my diet but I feel like my stomach is going to stay flabby until I work it out. I am definitely going to try my on demand and google what else is out there. I would like to try zumba but there is nothing convienent to me.

Re: Exercise!!

I'm going to push yoga here since I teach it If you get to a nice challenging vinayasa (flow) class it will really force you to use your core if you are really working. I never feel better than when I'm doing it several times a week. There are times when I add extra cardio like biking or running though when I get particularly out of shape.
Anyone can FM me if you have questions! There are good videos online, etc. I don't take it but I have a friend who is an AMAZING pilates instructor and I'd recommend her classes.
