seems that at 6 months she is enjoying the exersaucer at daycare. We did not get one cause I had thought that they were not the best thing to get...I thought that it had been shown that they did not help babies...that it did not encourage them to use their leg muscles,etc...
let me know what you think or what info you have run across.
we do have a pack n play but we haven't used it yet.. I thought since J cannot sit unassisted that it would not be useful for her...and actually may be more frustrating than anything...
any feedback?

Re: Exersaucer??? pack n play
I know lots of babies that love their exersaucer. I registered for the Step and Play Piano
some kids love the pack and play- others hate it. i think it really depends on the child though.

Re: Exersaucer??? pack n play
Phyl, I know. It's really so hard to know what is best, when there are conflicting opinions out there about ANYTHING.
Paul LOVED his exersaucer....we got the 2-in-1 Discovery Farm - it converts to a little train track after the baby outgrows the 'saucer' part. I liked it b/c it could 'grow' with Paul.
I found that learned to bounce in this thing really helped to strengthen Paul's legs - quite contrary to what a lot of people say.
So, use your best judgement. If Julianne likes it at daycare, and you have a the space for it at home, you might make the investment. However, since she's already 6 mos., you might not get much use out of it. Paul was just about done w/it at that age.
As far as the Pack-n-Play, I found it useful for when Paul was learning to hold his body up off the floor and begin to crawl. With him being more mobile, I needed a safe place for him to hang out while I got some things done. It was also a help whenever we went to visit someone's house that wasn't baby-proofed. But, Paul also outgrew the PnP once he could stand - then he wanted to roam around the room for real!

Re: Exersaucer??? pack n play
I heard the same thing about the exesaucer, sometimes called the 'neglectosaucer' but Luke enjoys it and believe me, he gets plenty of leg exercise in it. Thank God we are moving b/c out downstair neighbor is probably being driven crazy by his jumping.
As long as you dont park the baby in it for hours (which is how it got the neglectosaucer nickname), I think it's great.
The pack and play is helpful for different reasons. We had it at my Moms when he was smaller to sleep in and now he's been sleeping in it in our room in the AC now that it's hot but Luke definitely doesnt like to be put in it. He apparently needs his freedom. If the baby's room is upstairs and you want her to nap downstairs, its great for that. Also, if you travel or go visiting overnight you have an instant travel bed.

am I maybe better off..
trying to get one second hand? if she is going to outgrow it sooo fast? def woul not be left in there for HOURS...but it would be a good change from the swing and bouncer...we do use a gym thing...with the dangling toys and try to use it for tummy time as well as for her to grab and interact with things....

Re: am I maybe better off..
I got an exersaucer at a thrift shop for $8. It is an older version of the evenflo megasaucer I have at home. Since she loved the one we had so much, I got it for Annalise to use when she is at MIL's house while I work. It is not as 'interesting' as the newer one, but I bought a suction cup toy to add to the fun of it. It cleaned up well. I also got a slightly used pack'n'play from a relative for her to sleep in while at Grandma's. I have another one my mom got used from a friend. We bring it camping and set it up in front of our bed for her to sleep in at night. During the day we leave it outside the trailer for her to sit in and play with her toys.

when do you start using the exersaucer? We got one at the shower and Ryan is 9 weeks now - is that too small?

Paul started using his around 4-4 and 1/2 months...I think you have to wait until they can hold their own heads up strong.
