Extra hour for reception

Hi, All,

Just wanted to see if anyone has or will be extending their reception one more hour? Fi & I are trying to decide-wedding is this Friday!!
I really want to because I want it to last as long as possible, but is it worth it?
Thanks for all feedback,
Helen

Extra hour for reception

We are going to do it - it's only once in a lifetime and we are having a lot of guests, I think with the extra hour we will be able to spend more time talking to everyone, etc.

I would, but there is a wedding after mine...:(

how much extra $$?
would it go past 1 am??

Extra hour for reception

If its an afternoon wedding I would definately do it. For an evening wedding I would take into account the distance most of my guests are traveling. If there is more than a hour travel time for many I would stick to the regular 5hr reception.
just my opinion

Extra half-hour for reception

I am doing an extra half-hour. since I built it into the contract (rather than extending it that night) the cost wasn't too bad. (I can't remember if the hall threw it in at no charge...I booked awhile ago).

Cocktail hour is 6:30-7:30 and the reception 7:30-12:00. There was no party before me (yet) so they had no problem starting at 6:30 instead of 7.

The only thing is your vendors will sometimes charge more..esp. DJ or band.

Also, keep in mind the OT for the band!

If all is within reason and your budget - I'd do it too! I can't because there is a wedding after mine!

We considered that and then decided that since we were having a brunch the day after the wedding it mught be too much for some of the guests.

Doing 'After Party' Instead

After looking at the extra cost for the hall + DJ + Limo home -- it just wasn't worth it for us for such a short about of time.

Me & my FI will instead rent a 'Party bus' (it holds 22 people and is outfitted like a limo) for 5 hours (it'll hold the bidal party + spouses + a few extra people) and go bar hopping near our home on Nautical mile in Freeport. Anyone who wants to join us from the wedding will be invited and I think it'll be a blast.

When I walk up to the bar in my wedding gown & tiara -- there's no way I'm paying for my drinks! :)

We added onto our cocktail hour...

Our wedding was on a Friday, and we thought a lot of our guests would probably be too tired from work to enjoy an hour added to the end of our party, so we added an extra half hour onto our cocktail hour. It really worked out for us, because we got ALL of our guest greeting done before the reception even started! : )

Aren't you afraid to walk into a smokey bar w/ your gown on? What if something spills on it or it gets burned w/ a cigarette? It sounds fun,but I might consider changing first.Of course you MUST leave your tiara on :)
Continued success to all..

Nah... It's not like I'm gonna wear it again! :) Besides, it's not like we're going to go to some really crowded bar without elbow room -- we'll end up taking over some quieter smaller place and make our own party. If the dress can make it through the reception, I'm sure the after-party won't be a big deal -- and stains & stuff are what dry cleaners are for!

I plan to relax & enjoy myself...

Hey Jenn - did anybody find that the half hour additional was too long for the cocktail hour? I thought we might do this as well - but I was worried that people might get really restless after more than an hour.

No one complained. : ) I have the kind of family that speaks their mind. and nothing was said.
Actually, I think some people liked having the additional time to arrive. We had lots of people who had to work that day, and even if they were 20 or 30 minutes late, they still had time to eat.
Hope that helps! : )
