I just quit my job and with the timing of my new job we were able to extend our honeymoon an extra 2 days. I have a full Sat, Sun and half of Monday to find someplace for us to go since our condo place can't take us. We are considering taking a shuttle boat to Lanai. Anyone ever been there and can recommend any place else to stay cheap on Maui or cheap on Lanai ($150-200 a night) or can you recommend another island to do? The whole trip is 6 days on Kauai, 6 days on Maui and now this extra 2.5 days for something else. We have been told to avoid Wakiki and have decided against Oahu and the USS Arizona b/c we hear since 9-11 the security is unreal and the lines are 4-5 hours long. We do need to be back on Maui on Monday to fly home. HELP!

Re: Extra two days in Hawaii help
I went to Hawaii a few months ago and stayed on OAHU. We went to the Arizona and yes, security is heightened since September 11th BUT it's not like they strip searched us. You are just not allowed to carry any bags including purses and/or camera bags. Check out the website at http://www.arizonamemorial.org/ for more info on the security.
As far as the wait -- we headed there very early (we were at the memorial by 8am) and the lines were NOT THAT bad. I think we wait 1 1/2 hrs to get on the ferry to go over to the Arizona Memorial. They give you tickets with an assigned time so that you can walk around while you wait to be called. It's really not that bad. I am so glad that we got to visit it. And I think no matter WHAT time of year/day you go it will always be busy because it's a tourist attraction! Just try to get there early so you don't spend the WHOLE day there.
If you have any other questions about Oahu, please feel free to email me at [email protected] - I'd be glad to help!
Just a recommendation...I might not extend...the flight coming back is rough and so is the time change. If you are starting a new job, the jet lag may be tough to get over...
just MHO

Re: Extra two days in Hawaii help
I agree with Yabbobay. Do you have a red eye coming back? I got lucky and was able to sleep (across three seats) on the trip home because the plane was so empty! This is definately something you should take into consideration. But on the other hand, an TWO WHOLE EXTRA days IN HAWAII? Hmm, I think my decision would be to suffer with the jet lag. Hawaii was unbelievable! I spend 10 days there and it felt like a month (I wish it had been). Another word of advice would be to sit back EVERY day and soak up the surroundings. It was the most AMAZING trip I have ever taken.

Re: Extra two days in Hawaii help
Well, we have decided to do two extra days on Maui. It wound up being to expensive and not enough time for us to run over to Oahu or the Big Island. So get this....I go on Hotwire to look at hotel prices and I got a 5 star hotel (Maui Prince Makena Resort) for $150 a night! Very psyched! Thanks for the help girls! I get back on Tuesday at 1 and start the new job on Wed....it will be tough but luckily the weekend is only three days from then. I can crash......Holy cow! 16 days til the wedding!
you can always do a day trip to Oahu...there are tours that pick you up early...fly you to another island and then take you on a tour...for about $150-300...I'm sure there are Pearl Harbor tours and they might be able to get you passed the line...
I agree Hawaii is amazing...but on our way back we had to land in LA for fuel...at 2am they turned on ALL the lights in the cabin! I took a Unisom and esaily fell back to sleep, but my tall FH had lots of trouble...
