I work in construction and can't have long nails so I am going to get tips put on the day before. What kinds should I get? My nail place offers acrylic or silk. Any suggestions? Will they be a nightmare to get off only after two weeks?

i prefer silk. if you soak them, they won't be a problem to get off. but your nails will be weaker. use lots of nailtique!

Just curious if you considered just getting a manicure. I am thinking I will do that. I have had silk wrapped in the past, loved them. Its just too much to keep up with, anything kills your natural nail too.
I would say try a manicure first. JMO-but fake nails seem to look a little thick. Nice, manicured, short nails are classic.

Re: Fake nails for the wedding
I've had almost everything done that you can imagine.
Acrylic is cheap and strong, BUT when they do break off, it can hurt like b*tch, and they are a royal PITA to take off. Plus they leave your nails weaker than when you started.
Silk is good, easier on the nails and more natural looking. If you have an option, get silk extensions. Also you have to find a person who does it right. I've had silk done that cracked 2 days later, and I've had it done where it lasted 3 weeks (the nails I have on now are silk extensions and it's been almost 3 weeks and they're still holding up)
Gel is okay, but almost similar to acrylic, but it's a lot more natural looking than acrylic.
It's a matter of personal preference!!

I'm sure everyone on here will disagree with me, but I always get acrylic. Silk tips always break with me, and they burn my nail underneath. Acrylic is also cheaper!
I totally agree with you

Re: Fake nails for the wedding
Glad you asked, I had the same q...also what is permanent french?
I have 'boy' nails & even if/when my nails grow i have a terrible habit of 'peeling/breaking' them.
I've had fake nails put on a few times & was in tears taking them off & it left my nails paper thin...
I'm concerned w/ what to do...

i use acrylic and they are not thick at all .. in fact my sister commented on how thin they are.So that is my opinion go with arcylic if its a good nail place you will never know ..

Start using nail hardner now and you should have nice nails for your wedding. IMO fake nails, regardless of silk wraps or acrylic, look fake. Besides both ruin your nails. Both involve putting glue on your natural nail.

Re: Fake nails for the wedding
I have used both, Although silk is nice and more $$, I like acrylic because its such a quicker process. In reality you have to go to a really really really good person. There are so many places that do not do a good job and i have experienced some...I have a few really good people i can reccomend. so FM me for the info. I never have a problem getting the acrylic off. If you put on either silk or acylic and want to take them off in 2 days you will have a problem regardless. The longer you leave them on the easier a job it will be to take them off. I would reccomend going back and having them take them off cause they have alot of tools at the salon.

Re: Fake nails for the wedding
Well If you are going to take your nails off right away (after your honeymoon) I suggest going with gel tips. They are less harsh on the natural nail.. pretty sturdy (although not as sturdy as acrylic) I had acrylic wraps for YEARS and vowed ever to ever use them again. They totally destroyed my nails and looked so fake.
Another option is getting the french powder-dip, although VERY expensive to put on as well as maintain.
