Fake nails for the wedding

Fake nails for the wedding

I work in construction and can't have long nails so I am going to get tips put on the day before. What kinds should I get? My nail place offers acrylic or silk. Any suggestions? Will they be a nightmare to get off only after two weeks?

I'm sure everyone on here will disagree with me, but I always get acrylic. Silk tips always break with me, and they burn my nail underneath. Acrylic is also cheaper!

Acrylics are cheaper but they don't look as natural. I think they make your nails look thicker.

I'd go with silk wrapped extensions. They cost more but are worth it. They look more natural.

I personally don't like the look of fake nails even if they are fake.

Silk are natural but not durable as acrylic. If you go to a good place they can make acrylic look natural w/o it being so thick.

Either are a B**** to take off, thats why I haven't had fake nails since the last wedding I was in '03. I hate them but I am going to have to get them for my wedding because mine break all the time in karate.

Silk is easier to remove than acrylic. Silk is also a natural fabric and allows the nails to breathe, while acrylic does not. If you've never had them before you don't know if you're allergic to the chemicals that make up acrylics. Can you tell I'm voting for getting silk??

Seriously, though, I just saw you at the showcase on Saturday - I don't know if you noticed, but my nails (the ones that aren't mine b/c they have broken due to the cold weather) are silk not acrylic.

ditto. I had acrylic and it was fine, I went back to the salon about 2 weeks later and it wasnt too bad getting them taken off.

I don't disagree with you! Also, a good nail tech can make the acrylic thin and more natural looking. You can get them off by soaking them in nail polish remover with acetone.

I am allergic to acrylic.. they make my nail beds swell and itch for days.. what about Forever French?? If my own nails don't grow out in time, I am getting those.. JMO

Just curious if you considered just getting a manicure. I am thinking I will do that. I have had silk wrapped in the past, loved them. Its just too much to keep up with, anything kills your natural nail too.

Personally, I've had acrylics a few times and every time I end up cursing myself for doing it. My I always end up with bruising undeneath my nails and they rip off and leave me with very thin, gross, ugly, sad nails. But that's just my experience. So, if it were me, I'd splurge on the silk.

I am going to get silk wraps. I have had them in the past and loved them, I had no problems with them breaking, although maintenance (fill-ins every two weeks) were a pain and could get expensive. I have really small nail beds and they made my nails look more 'normal'. I will probably have them put on about a month before the wedding.

Thats was probably my mistake I tried to take them off myself and was so impatient while soaking in the acetone.

Acrylic! No doubt about it. I love the permanent french that they do with pink and white acrylic powder - it loos so natural!

I do both. When I'm low on cash I do acrylic and they look just as nice on me as the silk extensions

I've had both. The place I go it's the same price. Silk wrap doesn't hold. They broke on me all the time. I say acylic. And go with a classic french. Maybe with silver lining. And to take them off, you have to soak them for a WHILE.

I've had both acrylic and silk. The acrylic is good if you wash your hands a lot because they can last. For me, once I changed to silk I never went back to acrylic. I think that they look more natural and my nails arent as damaged when I take them off.

ETA: For the wedding I am going to get permanent french silks
