Dad and stepmother have decided they won't be attending our wedding (along with not allowing my 3 adorable stepsiblings to go as well). No big deal. But Dad had the nerve to say to my mother 'Well she knows we always go camping that week (Labor Day weekend) so she should have picked a different day!' Mind you they go camping a HALF HOUR AWAY from their house and could easily go home for a few hours to come to their daughter's wedding!!! (They've come home for a day or two for lesser reasons!)
Now I don't know whether to even invite the rest of my father's side of the family - grandmother, 2 aunts & 2 uncles and their spouses - since I'm not even that close to them anyway. I'm definitely not inviting stepmothers family either even though they've always been nice to me. It would be strange having these people there without my parents being there too. I have to cut the guest list anyway so why not start there?

Invite the rest of your family. They are still your family. If they don't attend just because your father isn't their it is their loss!!!!

Definitely invite them...you don't want to look like the 'bad guy'. It's the right thing to do. I can't believe they said that about camping!

Holy cow! I'm sorry for you! I agree with the other ladies, I would invite everyone too. And I'd try to make my Dad feel REALLY bad for chosing a camping trip over his daughter's wedding!!

Holy crap! IS your dad SERIOUS!? Sorry, I think he's behaving like a giant *******. NO offense, but it's unthinkable to me that CAMPING is his excuse.
Unless you're not very close to him then have fun on your trip dad.

Just take the high road. I would invite them. Keep doing the right thing. Don't let your Dad's behavior change who you are or what you want.

i agree with julybride444. invite the rest of the family. your father and stepmom will look like complete @sses when they don't show. and who knows maybe this will shame them enough to change their minds.
I would invite these people...if they are always nice to you...they may look forward to coming...
that way you also put the burden on them...whether they come or not...otherwise it will be...'I can't beleive she didn't invite us'

It seems very strange that they would get annoyed that you are getting married on a day they usually go camping. I would say 'So you are telling me that camping is more important than my wedding?' There's got to be more to it than this. What is really bothering them?

I am so sorry to hear that he is being so selfish. Especially regarding his own daughters wedding.
