Re: Family Heirloom Wedding Gifts
I have a hankie that was left by her great grandmother. She instructed me to give it to her for the wedding, which she knew she would not be here for.

My daughter is wearing pearls that were my aunts. She is having Patricia Stewart redo them to incorporate crystals in the design as well. Katie also has the mainstone of her engagement ring from my mother who passed away. My mom always wanted her to have it...it is a gorgeous stone.
How about your daughter?

Well, I've been pondering what to do. What does a Mom do, when she has two Daughters, and one is getting married, and the other might be getting engaged soon? I do have very special family heirlooms to hand down to my girls, but I don't want either one to be hurt, or feel, I love one more than the other, based on what I give to each of them. I need some of Solomon's wisdom!! Mary MOB

Re: Family Heirloom Wedding Gifts
I also have two daughters. My youngest (the first to be married) will be wearing my grandmother's amethyst and pearl necklace and bracelet on her wedding day. She knows it will be hers after I die. My other daughter has always loved an oil painting that I had inherited from my grandmother. That will be hers. I've been lucky that they both had expressed interest in inheriting these items. Maybe if you ask your daughters which pieces they would prefer, you problem would be solved. With inheriting it's the sentimental memories rather than the value of the items that is the important aspect.

That's a good idea; Perhaps one girl wouldn't want a certain item, but the other would! Mary MOB

I think you should think which daughter would like a specific piece. I am sure each of the girls has a different personality and different tastes. Think of who would be appropriate for each heirloom!
Good luck with this one!!!!!!! Kathy

Re: Family Heirloom Wedding Gifts
That's tough....I also have 2 daughters and my younger one is the bride to be. She has my mother in law's diamond which her FH set into a setting that she fell in love with. My mother in law is deceased. But since she is the younger one I did ask my older daughter if she minded and she said not at all. I mentioned in this post that I had a hanky for my daughter and I also have one for my other daughter. I also have some jewelry that will get passed on. But my girls have very different taste so I agree that you should ask them what they would like. I found that in discussing my own jewelry that my girls each wanted different things from me so that makes it a little easier.
