family issue...as a result of the wedding...

Original post by suven

my father did not attend my wedding. we had a huge fight last July, and never reconciled. He declined my invite, as did everyone on his side of the family...

Some of them sent gifts, others did not. I sent a web link to my grandmother so that she could see my wedding photos. I know that she accessed them, but she never acknowledged doing so. She had called a few weeks before the wedding in hopes that she could get me to call my father. I didn't.

Anyway, I just found that my cousin has a baby registry with Babies R Us. She is one of the few who sent me a wedding gift.

her baby is due in 3 months. Her shower must be soon because a whole bunch of stuff has already been purchased. Of course, I haven't received an invitation.

So, I purchased a small gift off of the registry and had it shipped to her home.

Was it wrong that I did this? My logic was: surely she's not the one hosting her own shower, so it probably wasn't her who excluded me...

Woah, but you sent it to her house? Don't you think that's going to give her shower away? I like the idea of a gift but you may have just conjured up more bad feelings from that side of the family.

I have no idea when her shower is. In fact, she may have already had her shower...

Hey, maybe next time, they'll actually invite me...LOL

Besides, for my bridal shower, they all shipped the gifts directly to my house (1 week before my shower)...so, I'm sure that they'll understand

I know it isnt my place to say this but I hope you can reconcile with your family soon...life is too short to be angry

Way to go on being the mature one and sending a gift!!!!

You did the right thing. I also commend you for taking the high road. You are the better person because of it. I don't think it was right for your family to do that to you, but you are showing strength of character. Bravo!

I think what you did was fine and I'm sure she will acknowledge your shower gift.

Hey, we can't choose our families, right? I'm sure in time, maybe all of you can work out your differences. I think it was very kind of you to send a baby shower gift.

I agree that you did the right thing. You showed that you're a bigger person than most of your other family members.

I think you did the right thing, too. You did something nice for your cousin, despite the issues you have with your father, and that takes a very mature, 'big' person. Good for you, and I really hope that you can work it out with your Dad some day. Life really is too short...

I think you did the right thing. IT's a shame that your dad's whole family didn't attend your wedding. I think it was really mature (as Oct2004 said) that you sent a gift.
