Family politics

Family politics

Here’s a question/scenario.
Family politics are a strange game to say the least.
As your wedding date approaches, do you find yourself getting more or less involved with the drama and nonsense that surrounds the wedding?

I kind of sit back and laugh at it all, wondering if I should get my hands dirty or not. But lately, I just look for another reason to cut someone off the guest list.

What’s your take on how to deal with it or how to avoid it?

Re: Family politics

I've always been one to not let thigs bother me. So for the most part I just brush it off, and laugh at the situation. I look at it like what's done is done, and at the end of the day no one other than FH signs off checks from our accounts

I am getting way less involved with the family drama as the day gets closer. There is too much other things to focus on and I know that deep down inside, things will eventually work themselves out in the end.

My take on it is, these things are practically unavoidable!!!! Run for cover is what I think!!!!! lolol

Re: Family politics

I always used to let family drama consume me and then I got so much better and just said to myself 'eff everyone else!'
But now that all of the little BS things, like me not asking anyone in my family to be involved in my wedding and us not inviting 1 aunt and uncle from FH's side, now I'm worried whether the other people in my family will come as a result of us not including people and whether FH's aunt and uncle will show up out of no where and make a scene.
I can't help what exactly happens on our day or now until our day, so I try not to totally stress over it, but it's still in the back of my mind. So I just try to deal with it as well as I can and thank goodness my FH grounds me!!

Re: Family politics

i find that it's easier for the grooms to just 'sit back and watch' the drama and not get involved....since most of the work is being done by brides. therefore, if there is drama over a seating chart or if so-and-so wants to bring their friends/kids, etc. the groom wont' have to deal with it head on like we do!

as the day draws closer, i feel more stress from family drama....while my FH tells me to just 'not worry'...very much easier said than done!

Re: Family politics

I used to let family drama get me really angry. In the past it was about stupid things. Once our wedding was announced those in my family who still speak to me despite my parents still act the fool. Some on FH's side do the same. As far as the wedding goes I use your tatic because sometimes it takes an occasion or reason for someone to show their true colors. It's a shame they use your wedding to do so but it's all good. Like you said one less person on your guest list.
