Family Vent

why do i feel like i have to plan literally everything for my wedding... i mean ME only me, myself, and I !!!

I am trying to finally arrange my parents to meet my FH's mother. they met his father before but not his mom (they are divorced)...his mom works weekends.. then my mother wanted to straigten up her home. i think you get the picture.

so now iam finally nailing down a date. my sister is giving me grief. If nothing comes up with her son's school she can make it.. what can come up on a saturday night?!!

mind you i had to approach my mother about this. i had to drag them to go dress shopping, i probably have to plan my own shower.

helloooooo i have wedding to plan!!! can i get some support from my own family ?!!

sorry i just had to vent.. my sister just replied that i should have done this sooner... in the summer then there would be NO conflicts with her...

i just feel like my family is looking really bad to my FH's family..

God help me... i can't take this anymore

I feel like this all the time too! Whenever I mention anything about the wedding or she's sees me doing something wedding related her line is always 'Are you getting married tomorrow??' I bothers the hell out of me. 'You have so much time don't worry about that now'

i am just shocked & so disappointed that this is coming from my own family. i always thought i would get grief from future - in-laws...but with me its quite the opposite..

yeah i hate when they say that too... you would think they would be excited and couldn't wait to get things done....

hang in there

i have no idea... according to my sister, i should have done this in the summer..

i really am getting so aggravated with her.. first i had to drag her dress shopping.. i had to take a day off just to go shopping cos she doesn't like going shopping during the week at night.

then just do it, i mean understand your sister is busy but she cant expect you to do EVERYTHING around her schedule for your own wedding...and as far as sat night, say ok im sure whatever you have to do for your son would be in the daytime and if anything she can just meet you all there.

I hear you...My family drove me nuts in the begining and I cried every night to FH. His family has been grat and understanding and helping out. My family just gives me attitude and tries to tell me to do it like both my sisters did. I am sorry but MY wedding is completely different then thiers and thats how I want it.

when i go to vendor appointments with my FMIL since my FH works nights... you have to see their faces when they realize its my FMIL not my mother.. thats a whole story..

My sisters got married 3 years ago but within months of each other. So they worked out vendors together for a better price so i guess I must go with them also, 3 YEARS LATER? It's incredible...My FH and I are paying for this ourselves, with very little help...so why make me angry? I am glad I am not the only one.

I'm sorry your family is giving you a hard time every step of the way! I think like Denise said, you should plan it for the day and have your sister meet you there if necessary. I hope everything works out for you!!! At least FH's family is supportive-yay for them!

Re: Family Vent

I know what you mean, hopefully things will get better. That's part of why I planned my wedding almost 2 years after my engagement -- we sent STDs and that should be more than enough notice for everyone! If not, they wont come.

After stressing about whether FH's family will come in from Michigan I decided to just not worry about it, and people who care will come and people who wont wont.

I cant think of something at your sister's son's school on a Saturday night that is more important than your wedding. Even if it's a school play and he's the star..

I completely understand, just worry about you & your FH, that will be your family for the next 60 years.

Re: Family Vent

thanks for all the great advice.. right now my attitude is ' i'm getting married April 27, 2008 hope you can squeeze me into your busy schedule'... i am very serious from now on i will not breathe a word to my family about anything wedding related. if they ask about anything i will be nice & thats it.

i refuse to let them get to me. i understand everybody is busy but i think they sacrifice a little time for family.

oh well.. whatever.

thanks again everybody
