Family's reaction to engagement...

javascript:FEmote('');I AM A LITTLE CONFUSED UPON SOME OF MY SIDE OF THE FAMILY'S REACTION TO MY ENGAGEMENT ... MY GRANDMOTHER AND MOTHER DON'T SEEM THAT HAPPY FOR ME AND I DON'T KNOW IF IT IS JUST BECAUSE MISERY LOVES COMPANY OR WHAT BUT IT'S BRINGING ME DOWN THEY SPEAK NEGATIVE AND IT DRIVES ME CRAZY ... DID ANYONE ELSE HAVE THIS SORT OF PROBLEM OR AM I JUST OVER REACTING BECAUSE MY FRIENDS AND OTHER PEOPLE GAVE ME SUCH A GREAT RESPONSE AND WAS OVER EXCITED ONCE I ANOUNCED MY ENGAGEMENT. I WANT TO SAY TO THEM IF THERE NOT HAPPY FOR ME TO JUST KEEP IT TO THEMSELVES CAUSE I AM GOING TO WIND UP SAYING SOMETHING REALLY MEAN.javascript:FEmote('');

don't worry - they may come around. it happens! i think at times my mother is not as thrilled because she does not want me to move out and some people wish fh had a better job. stuff like that. they can judge all they want. if they dont believe it will work, ya just gotta prove them wrong. before you know it it will just be you and hubby's life and their negativity will not matter as much to you. hope that helps. hang in there.

Don't let it get to you. Sometimes reactions are weird and it may not be because they aren't happy for you, but because they are sad that you'll move out and that they feel like they may lose you.

I know that FH's mom was a big negative at first because she's divorced and she was just going on and on about how it's gonna be difficult and that it doesn't always work. It's not what we wanted to hear, but we just let her talk and now she's not like that at all.

It'll be okay.

I believe your family will come through. Maybe they were not expecting it, or reality has not set in yet. It is hard for parents and relatives to let go of a child!!

Don't worry about it too much. As long as you and your FH are happy, that is all that matters.

In the long run, and you still have time before your wedding day, your mom and grandmother may come around and share in your joy.

Some peoples behavior when it comes to weddings is less than supportive... IMHO- if you and your FI are happy-- at the end of the day thats all that matters--
