when my father and I dance to the song he picked out for us, are our guest supposed to join in at the end? How does it usually work?

It depends on how you feel - if you don't want to be the only one's dancing out there, you can ask the MC to have your guests join you after you've had your time and the pics are taken... or... it can just be the two of you.
Probably not the most helpful of answers...

I don't think I am dancing to the whole 3 minute song, I might break it down to a minute or minute and a half! Also FH is dancing with his mom after, so to have people on the floor and then clear it again might be confusing. But that is my scenario.

I don't think so. The last few weddings I've been to guests didn't join. Also, sometimes the DJ/band doesn't play the entire song.

Our DJ gave us the option of telling everyone to join us or just dancing it alone. I haven't decided but I'm leaning to the joining in idea.

No one joined us, it was just my dad and i for the whole song. you can do whatever you want though.

It's your Wedding, whatever you chose.

We just danced by ourselves. And the same for DH & his Mom.

But if you have sisters & want them to join in the middle, you can do whatever you feel.
