Father Daughter Dance question - what would u do.

Original post by madseason

Point Blank - my father and I - although we live together - have no relationship. Its sad - it really is.

I dont want to dance with him. It would just be akward. We do not get along. I just cant do this.

Am I wrong? Are people going to talk if theres no dance?

FH isn't dancing with his mother and I'm not dancing with my father. I think the last wedding we were at the bride and groom didn't dance with their parents but I can't remember so, I don't think you have to... and I really don't think anyone will notice

the last wedding I went to, the bride and her father slow danced to butterfly kisses and they were cheek to cheek the entire time. Afterward my cousin, the MOH, told me that the bride (who still lived at home) slept between her parents the night before as a kind of goodbye. The bride also had a 'virginity' ring thing where she promised to save herself and she gave it to her dad during the wedding ceremony.
CREEPY

I also went to a wedding where the dances were skipped and I hate to say it but people did notice. Mostly because it's what expected --two women at my table were asking if they were going to do it after the cake.

wow that is really creepy

i guess some people will notice. the last wedding I was at though... no one mentioned it at all... which is why I didn't even realize they didn't.

I am not doing it because I don't see it being necessary. FH hates his mother... so she is lucky she is even invited. I won't care if people notice ... I'm not going to do something I don't want to do just to please people.

i have been to weddings where the bride and groom didnt dance with their parents......

so have I and it wasn't a big deal to people .. it just gave more time for people to dance if this is something you feel strong about and the feeling is mutual on both ends then don't do the dance.. sorry you are in this situation

We are not doing parent dances. My father passed away and I wouldn't want to dance with anyone else. FH has a very strained relationship with his mother so he doesn't want to and isn't dancing with her. Honestly, if you feel like this is something you do not want to do and you are not going to regret not doing it then don't do it. Don't worry about what some of your guests may or may not say. This is your wedding.

Heres an idea, this is what we are doing

Fh is not close to his mom AT ALL, lik ebarely talks to her and I am not even inviting my real dad but I do love my step dad, so what we decided to do was

I will dance w/ my step dad and fh will dance with his mom at the SAME TIME to the same song. It won't be all eyes on just you and you get to share the spotlight, plus we picked an unmushy short song

I think that it is your day and certianly you should not do anything that makes you sad/uncomfortable/awkward/ etc. I think it will be fine if you dont, really not a big deal. Good luck.

My parents are divorced and I dont have a good relatioship with him. I don't want to do the father-daughter dance but everyone keeps telling me its not right : . So I'm going to dance with him for about 30 seconds and then have the DJ invite all the father and daughters there to dance as well.
