Father rant--I can't believe he said this!

Background: So my father and uncle (mom's brother) work together. My uncle was very down on his luck work wise about 18 years ago and couldn't make ends meet. My father hired him to make my mom happy. They work on the Stock Exchange. Well with that said, my dad has been somewhat miserable since. THe old addage...'Never go into business with family'. But it has been tolerable, until now. My father took off the day after Thanksgiving. The other day my uncle comes over to my dad and (according to my dad) throws a piece of paper on my dad's desk and says I am taking off the day after Thanksgiving! Well my dad tells him that he has off and my uncle says well I am in Boston and can't come in....Well my dad is so pissed!

So long story short...me, my dad, and mom are at dinner the other night and my mom gets up to go to the bathroom....He then tells me not to tell anyone esp mom but...and proceeds to tell me the above story and says well the market is open that day and money is exchanging hands and someone will need to be at the office. Bottom line if my uncle doesn't show up he will be fired AND then 'you know what will happen wedding wise'. And I say 'no what' he says 'let's just say it is either him or me'! I was floored! I couldn't believe he said that! I just told him he is my uncle and he will be at the wedding and then my dad just reiterates the previous statement! I am floored! I just can't believe he told this to me! I mean I am not extremely upset yet because I am just going to wait it out but I am worried and just flabbergasted that he could say something like that to me! What a preposterous comment! And if this does happen and they are in the same room together is all hell going to break loose!
Great add 1 more thing to my ever growing list of 'to worry about' on my wedding day! I just had to share my burden since I can't tell anyone else!

Re: Father rant--I can't believe he said this!

I am so sorry. It sounds like your dad is talking out of anger though, so don't take him too seriously yet. And the fact that he didn't want your mom to know shows that he's aware that it's an innapropriate comment and unacceptable behavior.
Try to take it easy, I'm sure they'll work something out.

Wish I could help better...I know the situation is sucky! Sorry...

What I do when I'm stuck is pray...ask God to help you come up with a solution!

I am so sorry you have to deal with this. It sounds like your dad is very angry right now, maybe he will calm down in a few days and not feel this way. I wish I could do something to help you

Re: Father rant--I can't believe he said this!

So sorry. Your Dad probably is having a knee jerk reaction because he's let theis pent up for so long. In all honesty one really has nothing to do with the other. This situation is between your dad and your uncle. I hope he realizes that you shouldn't be punished for this. He might in time. He's probably just really had it right now and might calm down later.

Re: Father rant--I can't believe he said this!

Thank you so much guys! My dad is my best buddy! I love him so much but I am just a bit upset that he would tell this to me. Just why add to my worry. Also, now that he 'confided' in me this little knowledge, that means he will continue keeping me abreast of new developments of which I don't need. I just can't tell anyone about this. It can only give others bad tastes and misery but I needed to get it off my chest and get others feedbacks. Thank you for that!

Re: Father rant--I can't believe he said this!

Since you get along so well with dad, why not tell him you DON'T want to know any developments? Too often, we listen to the people we care about , but the planning process has taught me to just say - 'I don't want to know' if I don't need to know and I can't fix it. Explain to your dad that this is really upsetting you during a very happy time in your life, and you'd like to enjoy it. Let your dad know you care about his problem, but that you have the utmost faith in him that he will work it out in the best way possible for everyone, because he's your dad. (Buttering him up can't hurt. ) I hope this helps. I am so sorry he put you in the middle here - dads can be not so smart when their daughters' weddings are approaching! Good luck!!

Maybe he was just REALLY upset and frustrated (think IN LAWs) and was venting to you ......Hopefully he didn't mean what he said. - Wait it out and see what happens.

Re: Father rant--I can't believe he said this!

So sorry you had to sit through that! thats a stressful thing to be added to ur wedding planning plate. That really does put you in an uncomfortable spot and wasnt right for your Dad to get you in the middle of things. But you know what, let things blow over and although its a headache now, I'm sure everything will work out in the end - and they will both be there drunk and dancing the night away!

Re: Father rant--I can't believe he said this!

That is harsh to stomach, especially your dad! But, don't get to bummed yet. Sounds like he was mad, and probably even madder that he couldnt talk to your mom.

Maybe it will all blow over.

Re: Father rant--I can't believe he said this!

I have thought about telling him that I don't want to be in the middle but I guess I just thought that that would be like me validating that he would actually do this! But I truly think that is sound advice. Once he approaches me again about this (I know he will this weekend since I will be out staying with them again doing wedding stuff) I will tell him that I don't want to be in the middle. AH! Parental Figures! I think instead of hiring a baby sitter at the wedding for my precious nephew I am going to have one for the 'adults'!
