Favor / Flower Advice

Favor / Flower Advice

Ok, so I have never been a huge favor fan just because personally I've never used one that I've gotten (no offense!!) unless it was chocolate! Anyway, I was undecided on what to do when my florist & I decided on a breakaway centerpiece where there will be 5 vases (4' cubes) in a circle on the table around a few candles. I was hoping that each couple could take a mini vase of flowers as a favor.
Do you think people would consider that a favor or they would expect something else? Also, how do you think I should let them know that they are all to take one since now we can skip the whole who wins the centerpiece bit??
What would you think of this at a wedding?

Thanks girls!

You can have your DJ or band leader make an announcement. We had to do something similar since our centerpieces were rented. The DJ simply said something as to the location of the favors and not taking the centerpieces.

Or you can always come up with a little poem instructing your guests about the flowers.

Thanks! It's looks so pretty...but I don't have pics b/c I so not digital camera/comuter savy!
My florist is Sharon Lange at www.sharonlange.net and she has some pics that are similar on her site.
Mine will have like 2-3 pillar candles surrounded by 5 mini vaes filled w/ roses, hydrangia, mini spray roses, berries...I like that there are still alot of flowers. Each just looks like a mini centerpiece.
Then around the whole thing will be more votives and some river rocks.
It looks really pretty! I just don't know if people would consider it a favor?

Glad you like though!

I originally wanted to do this... I think my mom talked me out of this. I don't know why I let her... I don't even remember her reasoning. I still love the idea!

i think it's nice..........however, some people *MIGHT* see it as a way to 'get out of' giving a favor.

I'm not a fan of favors either, so it would not bother me at all.........i think it's a good idea, I just know how some people think. it just depends on the people at your reception. it's a little bit of a risk.

by the way, i was thinking of checking out Sharon. you would recommend her?

My dad and my stepmother did this at their wedding, it is a really good idea! People come up to my stepmother all the time telling her that they still have the favors from the wedding and that was 15 years ago! I will ask her how she let people know to take them home.

I think that's a great idea! I love when I 'win' the centerpiece because they're usually so gorgeous.

Do you have a lot of OOT guests, though? It might be a problem for some people to get them home if they have a long trip...

i really like this idea too. i dont think its a way to get out of giving favors at all!! its unique and functional and even though it will save you some money, the guests are still walking out with something so i dont see why that would be an issue at all.
i also think you should have the dj or band say something or you could put little tags on the arrangements that say 'a gift for you' or something to that effect.
just make sure you use flowers that will last longer than jsut your wedding. for example, most florists will order roses for a saturday wedding on a monday or tuesday so that they have time to open and look full by the time of the affair being that they only need to be fresh for a few hours. if your florist does this, the arrangements will fall apart by the time your guests get them home. since im sure your florist is aware that these are also your favors, im sure she will use hardier flowers that will stay fresh for a few days after the affiar. jsut a freindly reminder

Thanks guys!
Sharon is really nice and gave me the idea when she heard I was wavering on favors. The centerpieces ended up costing more then the traditional one but I figured that would negate the money I wouldn't be spending on favors.
It's a good point though about the OOT peeps. There aren't so many but I guess they'll just take some extra matchbooks to compensate!! :)
I also didn't like the idea of trying to match a favor to the table or having to give them out at the end of the night...
Why do we need to give these people presents anyway!! lol, seriously the food and band isn't enough??
