favor idea rejected

favor idea rejected

My FH and I love chocolate chip cookies. As a wedding favor we were thinking of making/giving out chocolate chip cookies with a note mentioning the charity we are making a donation to.

Last night i tried out the cookie recipe. I was good but im thinking it may be too much to do/make days before the wedding.
So i was thinking of giving out cookies in a jar recipe instead. I figure i can start this DIY early and it will last until the wedding day.

I called my mom to share with her my new idea and i was shot down completely. Her response, ' Thats not a good favor to give when guests are giving you a substantial gift, think of something else.'

I was excited about this possible new wedding favor and now im not sure what we should do. What do you think? Is a cookie in a jar a cheesy wedding favor to give? Thanks

I think it's cute and it sounds like your making a donation as well. Usually when people make a donation they don't give anything right? The only thing I'm thinking is that it may get expensive between the ingredients and buying all the jars. It might be cheaper to just order cookies from a supermarket bakery or something.

I think its a really cute idea. You can dress up the jar nicely with a fabric on top and a ribbon around it. I don't think people are really looking for anything 'substantial' when it comes to wedding favor.

I think it's cute. I would dress up the jar and attach the donation card to it.

I think it's an adorable idea! I do think baking them yourself in the days leading up to your wedding will be a lot. I don't know what charity you plan to give to, but Cookies for Kids Cancer is a great organization. Their packs of a dozen are quite pricey though (I know it's a good cause, but I don't think you want to spend $30 per favor) so you'd have to contact them for smaller packs.
You could also always order from Tates to be tres Long Island and attach your donation card to those (I am totally craving some Tates now). Good luck!

I think that's a cute idea, maybe show your mothe some pix of what you were thinking of doing. Sometimes people need a visual!

Wow, I was just signing in to post this very same topic. I wanted to make a donation for FHs mother, who passed away almost 4 years ago of cancer, and do a s'mores kit because Fourth of July is like the kick off to summer (and we're getting married on July 5th and according to my sister 'ruining everyone's holiday weekend'). FH thought it was cheesy and when I told my parents who I thought would wide with me, they didn't like it either. My dad has now suggested mini bottles of patron cafe, but it's not like FH and I are obsessed with the stuff so I'm at a loss.

I never thought to do a favor since we are doing a donation. should I?

I think it's a cute idea. I;ve been to weddings where a donation was made instead of a favor and they didn't hand out anything to take home at all. so if you do a donation and also hand out something I think that is definitely a nice favor!!

I kinda wanted to do a donation and be done with it. But my mom is old school. She's like people want something to take home and to remember the date. My thing is How many dust collectors do you really need? Put the date in your phone and be done with it... sorry for the rant...

Hi ladies, thanks for your input. I guess i could just do a donation and call it a day. We have time to figure this one out. just wanted to be different. Glad to see that i have support and that my idea wasnt that cheesy.

nella20005- i couldnt agree more that favors are dust collectors. lol

i did this minus the donation for my best friend's bridal shower and everyone raved and ranted about it. I say go for it if it is what you and fh want. super cute idea :)
