Usually 1 per couple...but if you are doing an edible favor, I would do 1 per person.

I think it's a matter of chocie. I don't think there is a 'rule' in this case.

We wanted to do one per person - we decided on one per couple though for money reasons.

I think whether you do one a person or one a couple depends on what you are doing.
A bottle of wine is more expensive so one per couple sounds fine - but if you did a very small box of chocolate you might want to consider per person.
Don't forget when you do your count to remember who the families are and the single people w/out dates are so you order the right amount

ONE PER COUPLE - BUT ORDER A FEW EXTRAS FOR FAMILY MEMBERS AND FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS THAT MAY GIVE YOU A GIFT EVEN IF THEY ARE NOT INVITED TO THE WEDDING........

Re: favors quantites?
Im doing one per setting.
I never got the whole couple thing. Plus some of my friends may bring dates and then it's a who takes it home thing.
Thankfully our favors are nothing that extravagant that this is an issue. So we are just ording 100 of them and having one per setting. If by some luck of god I get more than 100 guests, I'll reconsider.
one per couple, and one for any one who shows up as a single ...
what i did for my E party was that i counted the responces sent back to me and i gave one to every responce ...it was a really easy way to figure it out ... BUT i also sent out an additional invite to the same houshold if their child was an adult and in a long term relationship...
OFF TOPIC__ I also had a singles table for the E party so everyone who came along wouldnt feel bad and now theres 2 people who were single, met at my E party and may be invited to my wedding as a couple....

we were going to do one per person but when we decided to make the CD's we changed it to one per household and/or per couple if it was a single person bringing a date. We are putting these little notepads that look like matchbook covers on each plate and small bite size candies in a wrapper with our names on it in a bowl by the guest book.
