Hi Everyone! I'm not sure what to do about favors. I work for a school for autism, and I was thinking about making a donation in all my guests names instead of giving out favors. So the money that would go towards the favors would go to the school instead. But I am afraid my guests would prefer to walk away from the wedding with a favor. What do you think?

Re: Favors vs. donation
i absolutely love that idea and i would definitely appreciate a donation favor if i were one of your guests - especially sinve my nephew is autistic!
for my guests however, i feel like our traditional italian families appreciate an actual favor so its important for me to to give one out

Re: Favors vs. donation
I think doing both is a nice option. From how i look at donating money, this is something that can be done all year long, and doesnt need to be something that everyone knows you do. When i donate i like to keep it private. Sometimes it annoys me how people have to make sure everyone knows they donated money to a cause.
I also like to walk away from an event with something, wether it be a nick nack, or a piece of chocolate, or a tin of mints. Its nice to have something to remember the event.

Yes our families are italian also, and my mom totally shot down the donation idea. So I just wanted to see what other brides thought. I also agree about the idea that donations are a private thing....I'm still confused!

You could say that a donation has been made on a card and attach it to chocolate or another small favor.

Re: Favors vs. donation
sorry, i am not fond of the donation idea, unless you are saying 'no gifts' and donating $$
in terms of favors, i would rather get none, than something useless or silly (Ive gotten plenty of those)
i like edible favors

Re: Favors vs. donation
my family is very italian also and the donation thing got shot down real fast. I say just give a favor that is practical and not too over the top. You can get facors for 1 - 2 dollars online. Do the work yourself and it can be cheap.

i think the donation idea is nice as well. you dont have to tell them how much you donated either, it is just a nice gesture.

We are doing a donation.FH's grandfather just passed away so we are going to donate to a charity in his name. Both sides were ok with this.

same as what we're doing. ffil passed away and in his memory we are donating to acs on behalf of the guests. fmil will really appreciate this, as will our guests. but we're still doing regular (edible) favors of some sort and/or something candy related b/c we both love it.

Re: Favors vs. donation
We are doing a Donation to the American Diabetes assoc. since both our mothers and other relatives are diabetic. Its hard to choose but like many people say sometimes favors are disposed of and mean nothing to many. we will give min and small chocolate favors along with the scroll saying we donated on their behalf (no total amount indicated) .

Re: Favors vs. donation
I will be doing donations (we both lost our fathers to specific causes)
i will most likely add to it something edible. Of course, i'm sure this won't go over smoothly with everybody, but it's something i feel pretty strongly about.
