I was thinking about not having any favors at all at my wedding because that would just add more dollars which i don't have. I was thinking about making cd's for everyone with famous old and new love songs which won't be too expensive. What do you all think?
Or i was thinking of making a donation to a Cancer Hospital or a Breast Cancer foundation i just joined. What do you all think?

Re: FAVORS VS DONATION
a donation is great for obvious reasons....
but if ur making a donation ur probably going to spend an amount of money that u can also get favors with.....so if its about money, they will both cost money
but if u really wanna make a donation, u can do that and still GIVE something to the guests...like u can put hershey kisses in an organza bag with a name and date tag on it (or anything like that similar) and jus put a card on the table explaining the donation

A friend of mine made a donation to the American Cancer Society in lieu of a favor. They bought the yellow Livestrong bracelets and gave them out with a little note explaining what they did. It's an idea I've been thinking about as well. I think it's so much more worth it than favors that most people won't use anyway.

I think donations are a great idea. I've also been thinking about doing that. So many favors just get thrown away but a donation is more than that. I know St. Jude gives you scrolls or book marks explaining the donation- that you can give to guests.

Re: FAVORS VS DONATION
we did donations. the ONLY negative thing i will say is that we chose to get them rolled up as little scrolls and we put them in a bowl next to the place card table with a sign that said 'please take one'
well, i dont know if everyone was blind or just really drunk lol but there were A LOT of ppl who didnt see it and never got a scroll.... so if you do donations, i would suggest putting them on the tables!

Re: FAVORS VS DONATION
I'm working on donation cards now.
FH's dad died of ALS so I wanted to memorialize him so I am printing little cards to put on each plate letting people know in lieu of favors we are making a donation to the ALS Assocation.
I am not doing any further favor. I think the family would much prefer us putting that money toward the donation.

Re: FAVORS VS DONATION
donations are a new big thing. everyone is so tired of having a house full of favors that you don't know what to do with. i am considering this idea too. since FH & I love animals maybe we will donate some money to them. will have to talk to FH to see his opinion.

This is exactly what we are doing... except we are doing aspca and getting their orange bands and also the Multiple sclerosis foundation they have orange bands Or they have metal bracelets too all depends on how much we are able to give when we get to that point. We were going to tie the two up and put a little tag on them.

Re: FAVORS VS DONATION
ITA I hate accumulating some of these favors that i get for weddings (and baby showers etc). they are cute and all but seriously what do i do with them besides throw them out? My friend gave a donation to Sloan Kettering because her mom died of breast cancer, and as we left we got a small piece of chocolate. I think that was perfect and the RH provided the chocolate.

Re: FAVORS VS DONATION
I think donations are the way to go if you don't have a unique/useful favor.
My cousin gave out small bamboo plants with a glass vase for her favor, and I thought that was so unique.
We gave out silver keychains with real four leaf clover inside. Who knows if people are using them or not.

I'd say just do a donation and nothing else, I don't even take the favors anymore. I'd personally rather see the money go to a good cause.

Re: FAVORS VS DONATION
We did donations also to honor both our dads...as a guest I would also much prefer to see money given to charity instead of receiving a favor (in all honesty most of them are not useful and it makes me feel bad saying that bec I know from this board how much time goes into choosing and buying them but I'm being totally honest here). As far as the money part, just donate as much as you can...some people give a set amount per person attending and some people just give a set amount. It's totally up to you and FH...anything you donate will be more than the charity had before so it's all good

Re: FAVORS VS DONATION
I'm thinking of doing donations to the America Diabetes Association because everyone in both our families has diabetes and I'm thinking about a fellowship in Endocrinology after my Internal Medicine training.
Although I'm still going to have full-sugar cake, so I'm a total hippocrite.

i think donations are a great idea..i was thinking of doing it, obvisouly its more practical, however it wont really save you mony because if you do $2-$3pp its the same as buying a favor

Re: FAVORS VS DONATION
I dont think people do donations to save money. I think they do it because it is for a good cause in place of a candle, etc. etc. We are doing favors and puting $5 per person to the charity. Now it is just a matter of how to display. I would however like to put something on the table...? hershey kisses? i dont know... any ideas?
