Ok, so I have a dilema. What are you spending on your favors?
I was planning on getting olive oil bottles, creating my own bread dipping oil flavor, and filling the bottle with it. I thought it was a great original idea that everyone can enjoy. However, my FMIL thinks it's too cheap! AND, she tells me I can't give something that cheap to people, 'especially her family'. Can you believe that!
So I ask you, what are you spending on favors.....per couple?
Please Help!

Why don't you make a sample and show her. She might be envisioning something cheap while you are envisioning something classy .

I like that fact that you are making it personal by I making the oil ~ I would much rather have that than something I just put on a shelf... I LOVE your favor idea.... You put thought into + u as the bride are taking time to MAKE the oil to go in the bottles ~ that is AWESOME! I would go with what your heart is telling u... sorry you are going through these stresses!

Thats a good idea! Maybe she just cant picture it?? I think it's GREAT idea!!! We are giving a donation to breast cancer in everyone's name. We couldn't come up with a good favor and figured we couldn't go wrong with that.
I say do those favors anyway- they sound great! And it's YOUR wedding.. not hers!

Re: Favors - what's the limit
Real cute idea.
Personally I dont understand why we MUST give favors. Maybe I am cheap, but I'm paying $150+ per plate inviting my guests for a lovely dinner, drinks, dancing etc.
Most will give gifts - prob covering their plate - so in MY MIND - i think we (my guests and I ) would be even - WITHOUT FAVORS!!!!
My mom and FMIL both say I MUST hand out favors. I think I might just have to purchase two wedding gowns, put em on both moms and have THEM do this - since it seems to be THEIR wedding!!
I THINK YOUR IDEA IS CREATIVE AND YOUR GUESTS SHOULD BE HAPPY THAT YOU ARE WILLING TO BUY THEM DINNER AND HAVE THEM JOIN YOU ON YOUR SPECIAL DAY!!!

I'm spending $5 per couple but would go cheaper if my mom would let me. I think you FMIL is really insulting shooting your idea down like that. I think it's a great idea.

Re: Favors - what's the limit
IMO that is a pretty good amount of money to spend on favors...we purchased around 250 favors, which are all different kinds of ornaments for a little less than $1 a piece (went out the day after Christmas) But we still have to get the packaging for them and personalized ribbon.

Re: Favors - what's the limit
i think everyone would love the fact that you put your own hard work into it and that it really came from YOU!!
you could easily have spent $$ and ordered something. this is something you're spending time and effort on making.
i think that was a really rude thing for her to say.

Tell her she's allowed to have an opinion when she pays for the favors. I personally think that's an adorable idea and it's definitely something I would use.

Re: Favors - what's the limit
In all honesty I believe you dont have to do favors at all. Like I said just IMO we spend enough at our weddings. Yes people come long ways and yes they usually give us a gift, but they come to see us get married. I honestly dont think many people will care if they get a favor or not. Ill be honest - If its not edible I dont keep it. To me its a waste of money. If you really want to do something - how about a donation? Your MIL shouldnt say anything negative about that.
I hope you dont take this the wrong way at all, as I really am just trying to help. I wouldnt worry too much about it.

Re: Favors - what's the limit
Cheap???
Tell your FMIL that the favor is just a little something .. that you are paying over 100/pp for their FOOD. That you are paying to ENTERTAIN them with a DJ/Band. That you are paying for a photographer to take pictures that you can send as a Thank You.
I am spending 3/each on my favors. I am not spending more. After all the money I have spent trying to make sure that my guests enjoy their time at the wedding they had better NOT expect more or complain about my cheap favors!
