Ok, so I have a dilema. What are you spending on your favors?
I was planning on getting olive oil bottles, creating my own bread dipping oil flavor, and filling the bottle with it. I thought it was a great original idea that everyone can enjoy. However, my FMIL thinks it's too cheap! AND, she tells me I can't give something that cheap to people, 'especially her family'. Can you believe that!
So I ask you, what are you spending on favors.....per couple?
Please Help!

I like that idea too and I don't think that it would be cheap looking at all. Honestly, how many favors do you actually bring home and use? IMHO they're just not worth spending that much money on.

That's exactly how I feel. I mean now she wants to pay for them so I'm happy to spend the 7-8$ she wants to spend, but still....I was highly insulted that my thoughtful creative favor would be considered 'cheap'

I really like your idea too!! it's something people would actually use too. we decided to go with giving wine, it does cost a little more depending on where you buy it from -- but again it was something we felt people would use. so often I know we get favors and then are like 'what are we going to do with this?'
what does your FH think? I would go with the olil bottles. I like that it's more personal

I think it's your wedding and you should ignore what she says - if she thinks it's cheap - she is more than welcome to get a more expensive favor for her guests, and pay for them.
That being said - I think it's a GREAT idea!

I don't think that's a cheap idea at all--it's personal and practical. It's your wedding, so you should do whatever you and the FH want.

Re: Favors - what's the limit
I think your idea is brilliant! Does your FMIL know how much a bottle like that would cost in the store? I'd guess not!
We too are making our own favors: Starfish spray painted silver with a magnet on the back to provide a functionality to them. Much less expensive than what you are proposing, but hardly what I'd call 'cheap'.
That being said, I think you should go with hwat you'd like to get if you'd be going to the wedding as a guest.
Like I said before, I think your idea is just grand!

I thought your idea was really nice!! I had recieved something like that from a friend as a Christmas present a few years ago and it was awesome!
I do not think that is cheap at all. Putting all of that together is probably a lot more expensive than she thinks.

That is so rude....I love the idea and to be totally honest we are spending about less than 50 cents per couple. Just doing mints. I hope she finds it in her heart to apologize.

Re: Favors - what's the limit
if my FMIL thought it was 'cheap' I'd ask her if she'd like to take care of the favors.
It's not worth the fight, and if she's such a know-it-all, let's see what she comes up with!

Re: Favors - what's the limit
One of my girlfriends is doing that for her favor in June. It is anything but cheap...and it takes alot of time to prepare so it is personal for each and evey guest. VERY insensitive of your FMIL. It's your wedding, if she wants to pick favors, tell her to plan her own damn wedding.

I love your Idea, the price is right and there a personal touch to it. It your day do what you want to do. Frankly I think I'm just doing letter openers -- I figure everyone can use it -- we all bet mail...
