Feeding the vendors-please respond, I need advice.

Original post by groovypeg

As all of you know, it is expected to feed vendors on your wedding day. For us that means it is 1/2 price,so with the band and photo/video we are looking at 13 people, or an additional $1300. Would it be in bad taste if we were to just get catered in a hero and salads for the vendors? That way it would be easier for the budget. Please tell me your honest opinions. I would really appreciate it.

my friend's band actually said meals are not needed as they were only playing for the 4 hour reception.

but if they do need/expect to eat, i would just pay for it!

My band actually INSISTS that I don't feed them...they said it is a waste of my money bc they can usually get some food during the cocktail hour and that is more than enough!

You need to feed them, while they won't sabotoge your wedding, it is in bad taste to give them sandwiches.

I work for a DJ company and they feel like the 'hired help' when they are treated as such. One VERY EXPENSIVE 'castle' treated my DJ and MC like they were orphans, asking them to leave the cocktail and reception rooms and fed them garbage food. That is very tacky.

Please don't insult your vendors, unless it's not that important to you....

I agree, but many times, it's not the bride and groom- it's the reception hall! Make sure to know what/where your vendors will be fed so there's no confusion.

IMO don't bring in outside food....
#1-it's in poor taste for the vendors as they do this every weekend, and have probably been to your hall before and know what they should expect.
#2-if you bring outside food into the hall, there may be a huge charge-for them to refridgerate it, to plate it, and to serve it...
#3-even if there is no charge for bringing in outside food, are you really going to be on top of serving your vendors at your wedding...the crew working at the hall know what to do-as they have done it many times over....
pay the 1/2 price and forget about it.....

wow, this is an old thread LOL!

we ended up feeding our vendors thru the hall. in the end it was worth it, to have them be well fed and energized for the day!

Ugh- I think it's such crap that you have to give these people an expensive meal on top of the huge amount of $$$ you're already paying them. If it came down to me getting my $500 shoes or them getting the expensive dinner I'd buy my damn shoes. If it's not going to break your budget I'd suck it up and by the mooches dinner. DO what you can afford. If not buy 'em a hero and call it a night!

What other job do you expect to be fed a gourmet meal at! Not mine that's for sure!

we fed ours through the hall too. I think it was half price. I loved my vendors so it was worth it to me, and made me glad to give them a good meal. They were a big part of making our day perfect.

We will feed the vendors at the hall. It's is obnoxious to have to pay full price (or even half price) since the vendors do not get to sit and eat for 5 hours.

From what I understand, vendors take a break for 20 - 30 minutes and scarf down something to eat. Maybe a DJ can take longer since he can put in a CD but your photographer and videogrpaher can't sit and eat for a long time and no of the vendors can really enjoy cocktail hour nor do they (I assume) have alcohol.

You have to feed your vendors dinner- they will be with you for at least 5 hours if not 6. Add on top of that getting to the hall and setting up. So figure they are going 7 hours without eating.

Maybe you don't get fed at your job, but you are allowed to take a lunch break and buy your lunch- so if you'd like your vendors to pick up and leave and get McDonalds then that is up to you.

I just think it's pretty crummy that people want the best of everything- $5000 dresses, $5000 shoes and $150+ pp halls and then don't want to pay the extra money to make their vendors comfortable.

I agree with you sassyz75-
These are the people that YOU hire based upon thier reputation and talents. They are the ones that are going to assist in making your day magical and helping document a lot of memories. I say- the least you can do is feed them.
I would not consider them mooches.
Your vendors are very important to your day.

ETA- if you don't like the prcing of the meals for the vendors discuss it with the hall but by all means, I think they should eat.

I suggest telling your vendors about your situation and asking them to eat during the Cocktail hour.
