Feeling cheap

Feeling cheap

I'm not going to toot my own horn, but I am one of the best gift givers ever. I love to get someone something that I know they are going to love and i don't care if I have to sell my *** (or soul to a credit card company) to get it. FH's b-day is this Wednesday and every year since we've been dating, he's gotten big gifts (a snowbaord, bindings and boots in '05 and a trip to Vegas last year since he'd never been). I told him that this year is going to be different b/c we are saving every penny for the wedding. I think he is going to be disappointed when he gets his gift. I think that he thinks I am trying to throw him off...

I don't know what the purpose of this post is... is there anyone else out there that feels like they can't splurge on anything because of the wedding?

I'm dreading Christmas for the sheer fact that we have an actual budget.

I just paid off the last of my debt last week. I was $18k in the hole and it feels so good to be out of it that I am scared to charge ANYTHING anymore!!!

Same exact thing here! There is no better feeling to me than finding something that is sooooooooo perfect for someone & watching them open it & be so happy!!!!

This year is going to be VERY hard...i'm dreading it...

ETA: what i think will make it easier is the fact that MOST of our payments are due RIGHT at Christmas - so any money will have no option but to go into savings!

I feel the same exact way.. I loveeeeeeeee buying gifts for other people. Even if I'm on my last $10 and I see something that I know someone will like, I will spend those last few bucks. Just to make them happy. And I feel crappy b/c FH and I told eachother, and our families not to expect much of anything this year. Now my family understands but FH and I are so good to eachother just in general, I just hope he understands that I cant get him these massive things...last xmas he gave me a vacation to the dominican Republic!! I dont mind not getting anything, but I feel bad when I cant give something to someone else...

you said it better than me. LOL!!!

my mother is the best in the whole world and wanted a burberry wallet to match her bag, but wouldn't spend the money (the bag was a gift). So i got her the wallet for xmas last year and she cried... it felt so good!!

No, don't charge a thing! That's awesome that you just paid off all your debt. It's much too easy to get right back into it. He'll understand, and so will everyone else around the holidays. (Or atleast that's what I just tell myself, lol.) You can just make up for it next year!

Re: Feeling cheap

This is actually really hard for FH. He LOVES to spend a lot $$ on gifts for people he loves. This year I told him we really need to take it easy, and he's not happy about it. We need a new digital camera, so I told him that would be our joint gift to each other, plus maybe one small gift. Well, he wanted a hockey jersey, so I got it for him, and now he's bugging me about what I want, but I really don't want anything. I actually just finished paying off all of my debt too!! It feels so good, and the last thing I want to do this xmas is run it back up to get really nice gifts for everyone. Everyone's been warned to expect a little less than usual from us this year. Most people understand. Don't feel cheap, your saving up something truly special.

Re: Feeling cheap

oooo I am the same way Danielle especially with FH. I actually was mentioning how I needed a new jacket and FH told me yesterday he was going to buy any jacket that I wanted. And I was like NO I don't want you to buy it but he knew I would never buy it for myself because I have also been talking about how worried I am about money and christmas shopping. I love getting people presents they deserve and should get. But this christmas I don't know if that is possible!! It *****...

I am so concious now of money it *****!!

Danielle I am the same way. I love searching and shopping to find that perfect gift and I always go overboard. FH has already started with me and Christmas this year and our budget (I hate that word). I am in process of getting myself out of a bad hole cc wise too so I do not use my card anymore unless I know it is getting paid off at the end of the month.

I know how you feel regarding FH's birthday gift. But he will be happy with anything that you get him. MY FH's bday is at the end of the month and I was in the same spot you were in (last year he turned 30 and I didn't give him much because I was not working fulltime) so I promised to make it up to him this year but with the wedding and Christmas I knew I couldn't do anything big. I lucked out and got a nice extra pay check for working my butt off for them on a project at the very last minute so it is allowing me to get the PS3 he has been wanting.

Anyway my point really is that he will love whatever you get him because it is coming from you. I know it s*cks to not get him everything that he wants but he will understand and will be happy to be spending his bday with you!

yeah last year i went all out with fh's christmas presents. and it stinks this year i can't do that because i have no money. i spend too much money on gas every week with driving to work and to school which is 18 miles each way. then i spend money on school books, food, my car bills, my cell phone and then school loans i am starting to pay back while tryin to put money aside. i hate worrying about money and not being able to buy fh something wonderful this xmas

I know he will love whatever it is i get him, but he knows that I can't NOT spend money and I think that he thinks I am just saying I'm not getting anything big, no what I mean? In the end, he'll be happy with whatever it is, but I just don't want to disappoint him
