Danielle I am the same way. I love searching and shopping to find that perfect gift and I always go overboard. FH has already started with me and Christmas this year and our budget (I hate that word). I am in process of getting myself out of a bad hole cc wise too so I do not use my card anymore unless I know it is getting paid off at the end of the month.
I know how you feel regarding FH's birthday gift. But he will be happy with anything that you get him. MY FH's bday is at the end of the month and I was in the same spot you were in (last year he turned 30 and I didn't give him much because I was not working fulltime) so I promised to make it up to him this year but with the wedding and Christmas I knew I couldn't do anything big. I lucked out and got a nice extra pay check for working my butt off for them on a project at the very last minute so it is allowing me to get the PS3 he has been wanting.
Anyway my point really is that he will love whatever you get him because it is coming from you. I know it s*cks to not get him everything that he wants but he will understand and will be happy to be spending his bday with you!
I know he will love whatever it is i get him, but he knows that I can't NOT spend money and I think that he thinks I am just saying I'm not getting anything big, no what I mean? In the end, he'll be happy with whatever it is, but I just don't want to disappoint him
I completely know what you mean. I was feeling the same way last year and this year (until last week). I even feel guilty about Xmas and we both agreed no big gifts. It is the giver in us!!!!

I was in collections with so many places, it was awful. my mom came to my rescue and opened up one card with a high balance and 0% intrest and we transferred everything to one card and it took me 2.5 years to pay it all off. I gave up almost everything and tried to pay $800 a month on it. It was so worth it.

That is going to be a problem with us as well. I am going to be spending less on my family so he needs to do the same.

Re: Feeling cheap
I love to spend spend spend on other people I put a lot of thought into what I buy- this year we put ourselves on a gift budget (I don't like it one bit- but you sometimes have to sacrafice) especially since my family is big- I'm sure he will be happy with the gift he gets this year (maybe taken back for a sec -thinking where the real gift is- but I''m sure he will end up being understanding.

I'm not going to toot my own horn, but I am one of the best gift givers ever. I love to get someone something that I know they are going to love and i don't care if I have to sell my *** (or soul to a credit card company) to get it. FH's b-day is this Wednesday and every year since we've been dating, he's gotten big gifts (a snowbaord, bindings and boots in '05 and a trip to Vegas last year since he'd never been). I told him that this year is going to be different b/c we are saving every penny for the wedding. I think he is going to be disappointed when he gets his gift. I think that he thinks I am trying to throw him off...
I don't know what the purpose of this post is... is there anyone else out there that feels like they can't splurge on anything because of the wedding?
I'm dreading Christmas for the sheer fact that we have an actual budget.
YELLEY....i feel the same way. Its so annoying.. Me and FH used to always buy expensive gifts and serioulsy go away for a whole wekend once a month....AC, Foxwoods, upstate, whatever. And now....boring...I cant wait for HM....

Re: Feeling cheap
Fh and I always go overboard with x-mas.
Not this year, we are giving ourselves $100 limit and are going very very small on everyone else. Our families understand, it is just too much this year.
