Re: Feeling like a guest at your own wedding

It's not silly at all, I felt like this at first because my FH will have significantly higher amount of guests than me, some being family I have never even met before and won't until that day. Then I realized - the people that I will have there, no matter how many, are people that I have known for many years and couldn't think of celebrating my day without, and that's all I need! You will not be a guest at your own wedding, believe me. Unfortunately in situations like this you find out who your friends really are and who matters. Cheer up

I’m not sure if this is helpful, but I think there is somewhat of a bright side to the situation – You might have a small family now, but once you and your fiancé join forces think about how much bigger your family will be!

Don't get yourself down, I have alot less family than my fiance, however the people that are coming are the ones who make your day amazing. Nothing but love and happiness will be around you that day! And they are there for you both as you start this new chapter in your life.

Agreed the most important people in your life will be there and in the end that's all that matters

I agree! FH has a huge family and I pretty much just have my immediate family.. I have 7 first cousins (one of whom is incarcerated) and he has 21. On one side. And 10 on the other side. I feel you, but in the end it'll all be one big family <3

I. Feel. You. Getting rsvps has seriously been the most depressing part of this whole thing. My family responses have started to trickle in, and I just found out one of my very good friends can't come because she has a business trip she couldn't get out of. I'm glad you got it off your chest. Your day will be awesome, no matter what!

I was so upset a few weeks ago when my best friend from childhood who has more money than God told me she couldn't afford to fly up for Colorado mind you she owns two houses there and she said she had a skating competition . Mind you she got a save the date said she wouldn't miss it. She didn't even tell my mom she couldn't attend my shower. These events have a way of showing you people's true colors and priorities for your life,

I feel you. I have a small family and not many friends who live in the state. And it seems like one by one, my friends I do have here have decided to up and leave NY.

I do try to think that the people who matter will be there, it's definitely discouraging though.

I understand how you feel. The only family on my end will be my father. FH has about 60 family members in attendance and someone who I thought was my best friend has totally vanished from my life. I have not even seen her since my engagement and never thought she would not be part of such a special day in my life. I take a step back and look at the family that I am lacking and on our special day I am gaining two fold and am so blessed. My true friends who wanted to be part of my journey and my special day will be there and that is all what matters. Chin up sweetie! Everything is going to be just fine =)

Thanks! Yeah, my only family that will be there will be my parents, brother, grandma and my 'uncle'. Just got rsvp back today from my aunt and they aren't coming. No reason why, they just checked regret.

I have just started creating an invite list and am worried that it will be very much my FH's side with a few of mine scattered about. We both live out of state and have very few friends actually still living on the island. I am not super close with my family so I wouldn't be surprised if most say they won't come. It seems like my FH's side is super excited he is getting married so they wouldn't miss it. I have learned that who comes isn't something I can control (and there is enough to worry about with the wedding planning). Those people who do come are coming because they want to be there for me and that is all that matters.
