Fees and Other Math

Fees and Other Math

Hi girls,

FH and I are trying to figure out how much per person fits in our RH budget. So here's the question.

There's a per person fee (lets say $100), a gratuity (18%), ceremony fee ($700), executives gratuities ($800) and the sales tax (8.625%).

When I figure this out, do I figure the gratuity (18%) on the per person price, then add the other fees ($700 & $800) and THEN do the sales tax (8.65%)?

Or is the gratuity (18%) on the total including fees and tax?

My brain is fried. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Take your per person number + 18% + Tax (yes tax the gratuity).

The site fee I am not positive about - i would think it would be that number + tax (not sure if the 18% would apply to this since there is no service it is just a rental).

The executive gratutites what is this? I have never heard of this and I am an event and meeting planner.

Thanks so much. I just wasn't positive which % I figure out first. The paper actually says 'staff executive gratuities.' Do you think that could be the Maitre 'de?

Thanks again!

No problem. Rule of thumb -- the gratuity or service charge gets taxed so do that first.

As for the Executive Staff Grat. they told you how much you have to give or is that suggested? If it is the matre d tip then it does not get taxed or service charged.

I have no idea what it means, I'll have to ask them. It was just listed with all of the other fees.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

Sometimes, RH's pool the money, and depending on the RH, your maitre d (the person that catered to you and your wedding) may never see the money. So unfair..when I was looking at RH's, I specifically asked who would receive that $$$, and many said the maitre d would have to be tipped seperately.....did not book at those places!!! Just for reason that we have a very good friend that worked for a very poular RH as a maitre d, and he was never a recipient of the tip $$$....that is the person you should tip!!!! Even though it states 'gratuity' on the bill...the people who make you wedding what it is do not see a penny of that!!!

Always speak to them about paying part in cash so you don't have to pay all the tax. You can save thousands by paying only 50% of the tax.
