oct.2004bride, I'm just curious at what other issues you feel arise from it? Do you mean health issues, religious issues, moral issues, etc?
health issues..i fear it...I know a handful of people who used fertility pills had twins and had health related issues!
The thing is, there are just as many, if not more people out there that use pills like clomid and only have one baby. And there are a ton that have twins and no health issues too. There is a TON of resources on this (sadly, I think I have read tooo many of them) I believe there are more healthy woman than not.
Wait...clarify please...health related issues as in long term? Or short term issues while on things like clomid itsself?

Re: Fertility Pills
I dont think I would take them... Like a lot of other people said, I would be too concerned about multiple births..

Re: Fertility Pills
Yes. We never thought it would take us this long to conceive and we both really want children...and if thats what it took to have one (or a few!) then yes I would take them.

Re: Fertility Pills
To all the girls that said they wouldn't take pills or drugs for fear of multiples...
If you found out the ONLY way for you to get pg was with fertility drugs, would you just give up trying to become pg?

Re: Fertility Pills
I have every intention to use fertility drugs if DH and I cannot conceive naturally when the time comes ... and based on my medical history and age, I'm fairly certain this is likely to happen.
I am confident in this decision -- but perhaps this is because I know more friends and family members who HAVE used fertility drugs than have conceived naturally! So since I am surrounded by many success stories, the concept of fertility medication is a little less worriesome than if I'd gone into this without knowing someone who'd been thru it firsthand.

Re: Fertility Pills
No, I would not take fertility drugs.
My sister was on fertility meds for four years and I saw what they did to her body, mind and marriage. Infertility places a great stress on a relationship and while her and my BIL decided it was the route they wanted to take, it is not for me. Granted, now she has two beautiful children(fraternal twins). I want a child in life, I don't need them to be my blood relation. But, that's me. I can certainly understand people wanted to have their own children.

i know three couples who used fertility pills. 2. had hearing problems and 1 had speach delays
It is our personal choice...a decision that both of us feel strongly about..I will not use any fertility drugs

Re: Fertility Pills
I've been thinking about this thread and the thread about adoption. DH and I haven't had this conversation (about fertility drugs) yet, just b/c we're nowhere near ready to TTC. However, I feel like I'd rather adopt than take fertility drugs. I may feel difficulty if I'm faced with this option in this future. I've seen my sister's friends deal with infertility for years and go through all the treatments, with no success...it almost broke up their marriage. Now they've adopted a beautiful little girl and could not be happier! I feel like if my body doesn't want to conceive naturally, then maybe it's G-d's way of telling me that it's not meant to be and that there are other kids out there who need my love. This is actually a concern of mine, b/c my cycle is very irregular. I think it is a very individual decision for each couple, and a very difficult one to make.

Re: Fertility Pills
I've been to various MDs and I even went off the pill for six months to see if I would get a normal period...but I don't...I have that darn Polycystic Ovarian Sydnrome....and when my DH and I are ready to have children, we will most like go strait to Clomid to get these eggs off my ovaries (I had an ultrasound, and I'm ovulating, but those little buggers won't 'pop' (don't know the precise medical term) off my ovaries.

Re: Fertility Pills
This is a topic that you cannot possibly answer unless you are put in the situation. When you have been TTC for months,or even years, and a Dr. tells you that the only way you can conceive is with a 'pill' then you will understand what a profound decision it is. I would think that most would take the medical assistance, assuming they want to reproduce. When you are put in that situation, the risks of using fertility drugs pale in comparison to the outcome. I think its a shame when people and even insurance companies look at this as a 'choice'.

Well that is FALSE...I have thought long and hard about this...even before i talked about it with my DH..I have even seen a good friend not be able to have a child of her own...I am well aware of the decision i will be making! YOU DO NOT have to be in the situation to make a decision about how you would react...
ETA...you do not have to be put into every situation out there to know how you would react..there are other options like adoption that is out there for people to think about....if it is right for them...there are some things you CAN know about yourself

Maybe, Maybe not...Yes you can THINK about what you WOULD do, if someday PERHAPS you were in that situation, but you have no idea! I am petrified of needles and thought people were crazy for doing injectables and such. I have my next appt on 4/5/05, guess what the topic is...yup, me starting on injectables. You can believe that you would react in a certain way if you were in the situation but you can't know for sure that you will. People are here saying they knew people that got ill after taking fertility medication. I have a few questions about that... Were they on the same medication? Same maker? Same dosage? for the same amount of time? For the same reason? was it medically proved that their illness was caused by the medication? Just lots to think about.
ETA- I have heard of certain helath risks, but none of the ones listed on this thread which is why I am asking.

Re: Fertility Pills
yes I would even though there are health risks esp for those over a certain age but I prob would chance everything because having a child is something that I have always dreamed of and I would try all possible avenues.
