My dislike of my FFIL tends to cloud my judgment... so I'll ask you impartial brides.
FFIL asked if we could play Spanish music at our wedding. (His new wife is Columbian) so that she could have some music to dance to.
We are not Spanish, I am not a big fan of Spanish music as it's not my taste... so I don't want to play ANY of it. If it was FFILs wedding, I'd be all about Spanish music, but Juistin and I aren't big fans.
Are we wrong not to play it?

I don't think you're wrong at all... it's your wedding and you should play music that suits your taste and the taste of all of your guests, not just one...

you're not overreacting at all ... it's your wedding, you should have a party that celebrates YOUR love, not your FFIL's love for his wife! that's ridiculous!
Anyway, what makes your FFIL think that his wife will not dance to 'american' music?

I don't think its wrong per se, but I personally don't see the harm in just playing 1 or 2 songs. I don't think is something to hold a grudge over

I wouldn't MIND playing one or two songs IF he was able to also do somethings for us that WE requested.
1. Stand next to your ex wife in the receiving line for 10 minutes
2. Help Justin move into the apartment...
We're getting flack about anything we ask him... so now I don't want to do ANYthing for him. The world rises and sets on his new wife's a*s...
So now I'm just aggravated that he has all these requests, but isn't willing to assist us with anything.

You could tell him you'll play a song if he stands in the receiving line

I don't think you're wrong. Especially if he is unwilling to cooperate with things that you ask for. If he agrees to do something that you ask, then I would say play 1 song. Otherwise, he gets nothing.

It's your wedding. Play what YOU want. Who is she? And you should tell FIL to clue in his GF that we live in America so you'll be playing American music lol.

sorry to hear this is causing you trouble... its ultimately up to you and FH what you want played at your wedding but i agree with some others maybe just playing a song or two

Joanne, I don't think your wrong at all. Its your wedding and you can play the music that you want played. I would definitely NOT make any special arrangements for him if he's not willing to work with you on anything

I don't think you're wrong at all. Your wedding, your taste. I will say that some non-Spanish people do like Spanish music, like a merengue. It might get the crowd moving. Maybe one song? I still think it's your decision though and if you don't want it, don't feel obligated.
