i like dogs. fh and i are having a similar argument....
i want a dog or cat ASAP, he doesn't (but wants one eventually) but our landlord (aka FILs lol) don't want us to have ANY pets...
FMIL said we could have a goldfish... but only one and it has to be a tiny one.

Ditto.

But, if you guys really are never home then a dog isn't a good idea. Are either of you willing to consider other pets as a compromise?

yeah its rough when you're not home. they're so much work.

I had 2 dogs until 2 Sundays ago when my 14 year old husky died in FHs arms. Since then, my other dog is a NIGHTMARE. so now...do I get another dog for her company? ugh...FH says no. I need my sanity.

I'd definitely wait. can you get a cat? they're so much more independent.

GET A DOG! They change your life. They become your baby. And theyre easy to train. Do crate training. It works! Then you and I can bring our dogs to the park after we go get drinks in Boken. haha

I dont have a big dog. She's a little puggle - look into these. Its half beagle, half pug .. SO CUTE. She's only 28 pounds.

If you're concerned about training, you can adopt an older dog! I know, I know, everyone wants a puppy, but they are a LOT of work. At least an older dog would be house trained and know basic commands. And by 'older' I mean I a year or two old, doesn't have to be a 5 year old dog.

Definitely crate train! especially if you guys aren't home that much. I think our dog was house-broken completely within 2 months.

Crashing...

I will recommend DONT GET IT...
Puppies are cute but I am just like u... I DONT WANT A DOG..
Thank God Fh doesnt want a Dog either....

I dont want to train, walk someone after I am tired...

Talk with ur Fh... tell him all of the reason why u dont want a dog especially in an 'small' apartment...

Yes def... puppies need time and attention!!

My Coworker got one before they got married.. and OMG they need to get so much time for her.. she comes to work and just say that she is so TIRED of that soemtimes...

If ur hardly ever home, that is a good reason as of WHY you should NOT get a puppy.

I feel the same way (but we have a dog) and we are never home but we make the time for him....its a great way to deal with the kids situation before the kids. But I must warn you on stressful day I threaten my FH that I am going to leave the dog tied to a meter because IT IS ALOT of work!

Re: fh and i arguing

everyone's different. i had a difficult time training my pug but i would never change anything for the world. i didnt do my research before, and i later found out that pugs are difficult to train cuz theyre stubborn and kind of dumb (lol)

but i love that creature. whenever he's at grandma's house, i look behind me expecting him to be there and i miss him.

he's not that much work now. the only thing is that if you both work late that its not a good idea to have one. if you work 9-5, lets say and get home at 6 or 7 then you can deal with that. you eventually only have to walk them 2 or 3 times a day and its good cuz it forces you to exercise too!
i highly recommend adopting one though- there are so many dogs that need rescuing and the whole breeder thing can be shady and its very controversial. you have to do a ton of research and pay $$
seriously -its cheesy but that dog is one of the greatest joys of my life.

love that breed but fyi..EXPENSIVE to treat. they have lots of med probs. :(

go adopt a younger adult dog at the shelter. you could get a housetrained one. puppies are cute for 5 mins until the chew your remote, wallet and shoes. until you wake up and realize you're standing in pee or poop and you're barefoot. Puppies are work.

I'm a dog lover. I'm also the 1st person to tell people not to get a pet. and please dont buy one at a pet store. really...don't.
