...FH had applied to Columbia's MBA program and although it would have been a difficult way to start a marriage, he was hoping to start in FA04. He found out yesterday that he didn't get in. I feel so bad for him. His ego is really bruised (he applied last year too and didn't get in).
What can I do to make him smile? I hate to see him like this

I'm very sorry to hear this. I am sure it doesn't help much but Columbia's MBA program is very difficult to get into. He shouldn't give up and continue trying at other schools. NYU I hear has an excellent MBA program comparable to Columbia. I wish him much luck into getting into NYU.

I am sorry for him.You should let him no that the MBA program at Columbia is very competitive and due to the economy being so bad, more and more individuals are applying to graduate school, so it makes it even harder getting in.

i'm sorry he didn't get in :( i've heard from someone (no idea if it's true) that they accept a lot of foreign students at the expense of turning down qualified domestic students. again, don't know if it's true but..... definitely tell him to apply at nyu and maybe apply for a different program if there's something else he's interested in.

More foreign students. Maybe FH should list his nationality as Polish. He was born and raised there and still holds Polish citizenship even though he and his whole family became US citizens.

to your FH! I know how stressful the application process can be! But, he has excellent GMAT scores! He will surely get into NYU, the MBA program there is excellent and very reputable! Maybe he can go there for a semester or two and then transfer to Columbia if he doesn't like it.
