Girls, I need some advice here. When FH proposed, he didn't present the ring to me. I didn't mind 'cus I personally do not like wearing rings. And I've only agreed to wearing a wedding band 'cus it's important for him.
Well today I finally found an e-ring that I like, it's a white gold and sapphire ring which cost less than $1000. FH is upset and doesn't want me to buy the ring 'cus he thinks it's cheap. He thinks somehow people will find out that it's a cheap ring and it will reflect badly on him.
The ring will most likely spend alot of time in the jewelry box anyway so I really don't see why it's a big deal how much it cost. Shouldn't he be happy that I didn't pick a 10K Tiffany ring?!
Here's a picture of what it looks like. I've searched high and low for a design that I like and this is the only one I've come across that I like. And I've seen TONS!
what if you get the center stone as the diamond and the two side stones as the sapphire? maybe that is what he's hung up on? no diamond in the middle??? pretty though...

You can still get the ring you want, just upgrade it so that it's more expensive???
You can get plantinum instead of white gold, you can get a larger saphire and higher grade diamonds.

I like it a lot. I did not particularly want a diamond center-stone, but DH got one. I think maybe FH is afraid that it does not look like an engagement ring...that is what DH told me when I asked him about having a different center-stone. (before he bought the ring, of course.)

that is gorgeous!
I think it's silly that he thinks it's 'too cheap.' I hate how there's this huge stigma, that if you don't spend like a year's salary on your ring, then it's not enough. It's just silly.

I like the other poster's idea of switching the sapphires and diamonds - maybe that's a good compromise.
Have you really sat him down and said how you feel and listened to why he wants to get you a more 'elaborate' one?
Maybe he thinks you're worried about asking for somethng more elaborate and you're just picking that because it isn't super pricey instead of realizing you just really LOVE THAT one?
If he's just worried about what other people think, then you should just stick to your dream ring and tell him to not worry about what other people think!!

i likey. it's different. ppl may not like my ring b/c it's simple. but it's whatever you like.
go ahead and ask him what he likes then agree on something from there.

I think that it is a very beautiful ring. If this is the ring that would make you feel happy then go for it, perhaps you can do as another post suggested and upgrade it a bit, maybe this will put your FH at ease?

Re: FH Doesn't Like My E-Ring Choice!!
I think I might have a good solution. I was in the same boat as you... My e-ring has a 2 carat peridot as the center stone and 12 small round diamonds on either side. I actually had it custom made to a similar style I found online.
DH was pushing a diamond center stone with peridot accent stones. A diamond with the same size with decent clarity would have cost more than our new car. He relented.
But DH chose my wedding band. All diamonds around, like a tennis bracelet on your finger. I wanted something with similar accent/scrollwork engraving as the e-ring but DH thought it would detract from the e-ring. He thought it should be simple. He was right.
But the wedding band cost more than the e-ring, so he was kind of happy. Compromise is key.
Here is a picture of them:

Re: FH Doesn't Like My E-Ring Choice!!
By the way, there are TONS of other women with non-diamond center stones.
I think you should really reach for a compromise here... you should get a ring that will make both of you happy. He's a guy and needs to feel proud when people see what he bought his fiance. The price tag doesn't matter, but I think he feels it needs to 'look like' an engagement ring. I understand you like this ring, but it doesn't 'look like' an engagement ring, and people are so judgemental... they'll come up with their own reasons as to why you didn't get a diamond. You only get one engagement ring in life... I say try to get a ring that has the diamond in the center. You can add your personality to it maybe by getting a colored diamond or by adding the sapphires on each side of the diamond, but I wouldn't get something that my FH would be embarrassed to show people as THE engagement ring. Let him feel proud, but get something you like at the same time. The ring you showed us could be any ol' ring worn on any finger...
JMO...
Good luck!

the ring you chose is beautiful and is reflective of YOU and your relationship, not how much money you have or your status of the world. i hope he understands and that you get the one your heart is set on.

I know a girl with this exact ring, and a few girls that have similar ones. It should be what you like, not what people expect. Try to talk to him and explain that.

Re: FH Doesn't Like My E-Ring Choice!!
Thanks for everyone's advice. I'll have to talk FH into either letting me have this ring or buying me a nice necklace if he feels he's not spending enough... Otherwise I'll just buy the ring myself. :D
