Hi girls...Happy friday! Was wondering if anyone was having some of the same issues as me. My FH is not from LI (he's from PA to be exact) and I feel like we are sometimes not on the same page with how certain things are done and also how much things cost for the wedding. For example, he is horrified about the cost of a photographer. Anyone else going through or been in my shoes? How do I convince him this is what things cost?
Thanks!

Re: FH from out of state?
FH is originally from Ecuador and lived in CT since he was 13 or so... It is different even in CT...at first he was shocked by the cost of things, but he came with me to all appts and quickly realized that it is JUST what it is in NY/LI.

Why don't you, on a weekend when he's here (or weekday) take him to see a couple of the vendors so that he can see for himself what great work they do and how much things cost. Hopefully that'sll work!

Re: FH from out of state?
my dh was raised in NJ where the wedding was... but his parents and the rest of his family are out in PA... where things are like 1/4 of the price for weddings... and MUCH simpler..... he grew up here, so he knows what stuff costs... but his parents were a little freaked out by the cost of things- and we kept it at about $17,000... which isn't bad at all for here- his family keeps talking like our wedding was the most extravagent affair ever- we had a buffet meal, simple coctail hour, and the reception was at the community room of a condo complex ( although its a BEAUTIFUL room, right on a river with a wall of windows looking out and nice high ceilings) so by NY area standards, it was by no means ' fancy'.... it always amazes me how different things are in different areas....

It really is amazing. When my FH went to his first LI wedding he thought the cocktail hour was the dinner. He could not comprehend that we would actually sit down and have a four-course meal after it. Hahaha. I can't even imagine what his family will be thinking when they are at ours!
Thanks for your input!

Mine too. He is from upstate NY, which might as well be another state. He has come to accept that things are much more expensive and done differently here. He has also had to explain this to his parents, who had a very hard time understanding. When he was first telling them the prices of things, they thought we were being extravagant. I was really worried that they would think my family is wealthy (which we are not) so he had to tell them thats the way it is here, and the price of our wedding is actually average, if not a little below average.

How funny, I posted on here a few mths ago about the same thing. My FH is from Seattle, family lives in Alaska and he actually thought we could rent a house for Labor Day wknd (wknd of our wedding) for less than $1500. For eight people no less. He couldn't believe everything was a min. of 3k. In general I think guys are just shocked by the costs because they don't really get involved that much in the planning. They're not on theknot.com looking at all this stuff.

FH from Chicago...where I currently live (yuck). Anyway I digress!
They weren't soo shocked, I mean they've been raised brows but they pretty much expected it 'cos it's NY. To them NY is just over the top with everything.
