Ok, so FH's good friend is getting married next August. He asked FH to be one of the groomsmen. Of course he said yes without even thinknig about it. When he told me I pointed out that being in teh bridal party comes with responsibilities and that he wouldn't be able to be with me for like 1/2 the night between pictures and introductions and dancing. So then he was like Ok i'll tell him I won't do it. Not wanting to sound selfish, I told him not to do that because he wants him there so it wouldn't be fair to him. But then I told him I wasn't gonig to go. His reply was that he won't be able to enjoy himself wknowing that Im not there with him. And honestly..I know I would be all pissed off that night wondering what was going on (I know he wouldnt do anything bad, I just mean that he'll be there and I wont be) I dont want to go to this wedding and be sitting by myself for a majority of the time. I dont do well with people I dont know. ANd no joke, Im not going to know a single person there. I know this is coming off as selfish but I can't think of any other solutions...either way Im gonig to be miserable. Sorry so long!

Re: FH in bridal party but I dont know anyone...
If they are having a church wedding...attend the wedding, and then go home for a bit in between. Show up for CH fashionably late....and by the time you know it....he will be annouced and with you at the party. If they are getting married at the RH your just going to either have to tough it out during CH alone.......or just miss the ceremony and show up when CH is almost over. Do what makes you feel most comfortable!

You won't be alone for most of hte wedding. You'll be alone during the ceremony but thats ok because there's not much interaction during the ceremony. They are probably going to take pictures after the ceremony or during cocktail hour so you might want to skip the cocktail hour. THen during the reception you'll be alone for 5 or 10 minutes until they announce the bridal party. Then for the next 4 hours they won't need the bridal party for anything and you will be with your FH. Its really not that bad.

I have been in that situation. And to make things worse, my SO sat at the head table and I sat w/ all strangers. Hopefully you could make some time by August to hang out with new groom & his GF to get to know them better. The maybe you'll meet her friends, etc and won't be such a stranger by August. Just an idea!

Re: FH in bridal party but I dont know anyone...
Well...not that I was really in a similar situation but:
My FI's brother got married in August and my FI was the best man. I knew alot of ppl at the wedding thankfully because- my parents and brother were invited (my brother is good friends with my FI and his older brother) and one of my aunt and uncle and their kids were invitied bec they live across the street from FI were invited. However there was a 2 1/2 hour lapse between the church and reception- but my FI told me to come into teh limo with the Bridal Party (as did ever other SO of the other ppl int he bridal party) and we all went to the hall to take pics- so all teh SO's we allowed to hang in the bridal suite while the bride/groom and BP were taking pics and then we went to teh cocktail hour together!
Maybe that will happen!! but anyway I think you should go...and enjoy teh food, dancing, and get some ideas for yourself lol

OMG, beyond selfish is better, I'm sorry but just because you can't see your FH for half the night you're not going, listen to yourself. If its his friend he should do and you should suck it up, for worse things in life and imagine if one of your BP members thought the way you did. I'm sorry, but get off your high horse and think about your FH's friends day instead of your own needs. And as for not knowing anyone, what are we 5, no we are adults and mingle. You may even meet someone new, be optomistic.

It's a wedding. People are going to be friendly. You can mingle with other guests.
FH can always ask some people he knows or ask his friend to ask some people he knows to watch out for you and make you feel welcome.

Whoa....harsh! I can totally understand what you are saying...and agree ...no one should stop another person from doing what they want to do. In this case FH should absolutely be a part of the wedding. You on the other hand can decide for yourself how involved you feel comforatable being. Just do what you can.... Anyone can accept that.

Re: FH in bridal party but I dont know anyone...
welcome to my life, lol...We've been to very few weddings where DH WASN'T in the bridal party. And yes, there have been a few where I knew hardly anyone else there, like the first time I met his entire family when we were first going out..he was in his brother's BP and there I was, drunk and alone at the CH gleefully introducing myself to his entire family who probably all thought I was insane. So see, it can get worse!
I agree that maybe you can try to hang out with the bride/groom and some of the other couples beforehand (the bride and groom may arrange this so everyone gets to know each other)...maybe you will even end up driving with some of the other SOs... go and have fun!
